Triangle Passing

Triangle Passing

Warm-up:

Begin with balls on the ground, using the inside and outside of both feet and bending the ball with the run or into the run.

Coaching Points: Important to teach the rhythm. After you pass must accelerate. While you are preparing your first touch (trapping), you decelerate. Must bend runs, when they lay ball off in order to give the server an easier target and the receiver a more open angle of reception.

Set-up: Players are grouped in threes and arranged in triangles from endline to the mid-stripe with the third person equidistant from the other two (1,2 and 3)

Play

1) 2 starts bending run away from 1.

2) 1 serves a flighted ball to 2 so it hits 2 at the half-way point between the mid-stripe and the endline which is marked with a cone.

3) 2 takes it out of the air with one touch then with the second touch passes it to 3, then makes an accelerated run to 3.

4) 3 receives ball from 2, stops it with one touch, and accelerates on a bending run toward 1's original position.

5) 2 arrives at stopped ball and serves a flighted ball to 3 who is now bending a run toward 1's original starting point.

6) The cycle continues in a circle for three minutes, then the direction of the runs is reversed for three minutes and you change your serving foot.

7) Players try to get as many serves in as possible (more serves equals more points)

8) Players get points for successful serves (if served player can take serve out of the air on the run).

9) Serving feet are switched when direction of runs is switched. Right foot is used when rotating clockwise. Left foot is used when rotating counter-clockwise, although any direction will work with either foot.

10) Cones are placed halfway between the endline and the mid-stripe to force players to serve past the cones, so their flighted balls have more distance.

Ajax Passing & Receiving Progression:

1)One player starts at middle cone. Player on end with ball passes to middle player and follows pass. Middle player turns and plays opoosite outside player and follows pass. Player who just received it speed dribbles across grid.

2) can make it a wall-pass
