Warm Up I (10 mins)

Organization:

- 12 x 12 Yard area set up as shown

- 5 x 5 scoring zone set up as shown

- 5 players (4 attackers & 1 defender)

- Ball each

Instructions:

- Assign one Defender who starts inside central scoring zone between the cones.

- Attackers are numbered, have a ball each & start at either end line

- 1 Attacker at a time dribbles into the area & aims to dribble through cones to score (number order)

- Defender aims to close the ball down & show the Attacker around the scoring zone

- Once Attacker gets to opposite endline next Attacker enters. Defender turns & activity repeats

- After set time rotate the Defender

Coaching Points:

1. Close the ball down - deny penertration

2. Speed & Angle of Approach - force attacker away & delay

3. Body Position: low center, on toes, sideways on & always ready

4. Timing - correct moment to win the ball (poke tackle)

Progressions:

P - Allow Defenders to poke ball away from Attacker

P - Coach calls out random numbers - Defender must react

P - If Defender wins the ball they now swap out & become Attacker.

Warm Up II (10 mins)

Organization:

- 25 x 25 area set up as shown

- Scoring gates set up as shown

- 10 Players (5 Defenders & 5 Attackers)

- 5 balls (additional on outside)

Instructions:

- Arrange players in pairs with 1 ball. 1 player acts as Defender & 1 as Attacker

- Attackers aim to dribble the ball through gates

- Defenders look to jockey & stop Attacker dribbling through gate

- On coaches command players switch roles - quick reaction!

Coaching Points:

- Close the ball down - deny penertration

- Speed & Angle of Approach - force attacker away & delay

- Body Position: low center, on toes, sideways on & always ready

- Timing - correct moment to win the ball (poke tackle)

Progressions:

P - Competition - each players as 60 seconds to Defend gates. Least goals conceeded wins!

P - If Defender gets foot on the ball they score a point

Main Theme I (15 mins)

Organization:

- 10 x 15 areas set up as shown (A, B & C)

- 10-14 players (1 Defender & 1 Attacker)

- 1 Ball (additional around outside)

Instructions:

- FIELD A: Attacker dribbles into the area & aims to score in Mini Goal. Defender enters at same time & aims to deny goal. If Defender wins ball they aim to dribble ball over opposite end line.

- FIELD B: Attacker stands with back to Defender with legs open. Defender passes ball through legs into area & defends. Attacker aims to turn and dribble through corner gates (cones). If Defender wins ball they can score in mini goal at opposite end.

- FIELD C: Attacker starts by dribbling over 1/2 way line & shooting at goal. As Attacker shoots they turn & defend goal behind them. Opposite team player can attack as soon as shot happens. Play repeats.

Coaching Points:

- Close the ball down - deny penertration

- Speed & Angle of Approach - force attacker away & delay

- Body Position: low center, on toes, sideways on & always ready

- Timing - correct moment to win the ball (poke tackle)

- Reaction to Defend - Recovery run. Put Attacker under pressure.

- Denying Turns: Touch tight to attacker. Eyes on the ball. Ready to intercept!

Progressions:

P - After set time rotate groups around the fields.

Main Theme II (15 mins)

Organization:

- Two 30 x 15 channels set up as shown

- 12 Players (6 Attackers, 4 Defenders, 2 Goalkeepers/Targets) set up as shown

- 1 ball per attacker

Instructions:

- (A) Target player starts by passing ball to Attackers. As pass is played Defender can come out & defend 1v2.

- On Attackers first touch second "Recovering Defender" can enter the area & join the play 2v2.

- Attackers aim to pass ball back into Target Players. If Defenders win ball they aim to pass ball into opposite Target Player.

- (B) Same set up as (A) but now Attackers aim to shoot & score past goalkeeper. Defenders aim to pass ball into target

- After each attack Defenders & Attackers swap roles

- After set time groups swap fields

Coaching Points:

- Deny penetration & slow down the attack

- Close down quickly but do not commit

- Angle of approach from1st Defender. Isolate Attacker 1v1

- Recovering Defender get back quickly

- Correct moments to contain, tackle or double team

- Communication & support

Progressions:

P – Attackers now dribble into area to start attack

R – Allow defenders to recover into second zone if beaten

Conditioned Game I (20 mins)

Organization:

- 20 x 35 area set up as shown

- 1/2 way line marked with cones

- 4 mini goals set up as shown

- 8 players (4 Defenders & 4 Attackers)

- 1 ball (Additional around the outside)

Instructions:

- Teams play regular 4v4 small sided game. Play pass in's instead of throw ins.

- If attacking team loses possession 1 player can press the ball while remaining teammates drops back into defensive half

- Teams aim to score into mini goals

Coaching Points:

- Reaction to defend

- Nearest player press the ball quickly

- Remaining team mates drop back & set up defensive block

- Defenders move with as the ball moves: slide, cover & support

- Defenders Be patient, Be focused & Be ready!

Progressions:

P – PRESSING! Defending team get bonus point if they win ball in Attacking half. Two players can be in opposing half: one to press and one to cover? double team?

P - Introduce offside line

Conditioned Game II (20 mins)

Organization:

- 20 x 35 area set up as shown

- 3 Mini Goals set up as shown

- 8 Players (4 Defenders & 4 Attackers)

- 1 Ball (Additional around outside)

Instructions:

- Teams play 4v4 SS Game. 1 team attacks a central goal. The other team attacks two wide goals.

- Team Defending 2 goals are encouraged to show Attackers inside the field

- Team Defending central goal are encouraged to show players outside to wide areas.

- After set time change ends. (10mins)

Coaching Points:

- Speed and angle of approach should force wide attacking players outside

- Angle and distance of 2nd defender should protect central space

- Ability to change roles quickly and correctly

- 2nd defender needs to keep both attackers in view

- Correct moments to tackle

- Communicate to 1st defender

Progressions:

P - Defending team get extra point if they win the ball in Attacking 1/2 (marked by cones)

P - Bonus point if Defendig team win the ball & score goal in same counter attack
