Footwork Activation - Players in pairs or threes.

First player moves along cone line getting both feet in every gap, feeder follows. When first player reaches the end, feeder passes the ball and player hits one touch pass back with right foot. Player then travels back along cone line in same fashion and returns left footed one touch pass, becomes feeder, feeder joins line.

- Both feet over cones / Instep volley pass

- Hops over cones / Headed pass

- Right / Left foot only in gap / quick two touch pass

Focus Square (25 mins)

Awareness / Decision Making

Groups of 4 with one player in each quarter. Drill demands very little technically but adds layers of mental aspects to encourage prolonged focus.

Level 1 - Pass to a player in another square, switch with a player in one of the other two squares (not the one you passed to)

-encourage communication and constant movement

-players off the ball must make constant adjustment to ensure an unobstructed path between the ball and themselves, so must stay aware of other team's movements

Level 2- Long, short, short. Same as above but passes must be long, short, then short, so players must be checking in and out and staying aware of which length of pass they should be playing or receiving

Level 3- Two touch. As above with touch restriction. Decisions must now be made quicker. Emphasise that adjustment can be made for the receiving player BEFORE they actually receive the ball, communication can occur beforhand also. This will allow the player to make their mind up before their first touch and allow for a more deliberate, useful reception.

Level 4 - Now first pass is played, switch with another player, from here on you can only pass to the switching player. Remove previous restrictions.

Conditioned Game (25 mins)

Awareness / Conditioning

Field split into three sections, defensive, midfield, attacking. Simple conditioned game to encourage all players to remain focused during play. Team cannot score until all their players are in the attacking third, team cannot defend until all players are in defensive third. Encourages constant transition and all off the ball players must be aware of when to transition forward and back.
