Warm Up (10 mins)

Organization:

1. 40 x 40 yard area set up as shown

2. 18 players (9 teams of 2 x 2 groups) set up as shown

3. 9 balls (additional around the outside)

Instructions:

1. Players have to strike the ball to each other using different types of cross low driven/high driven/long lofted/bending

2. Crosses have to be over at least 10 yards, gradually increasing to 20, 30 and 40 yards

3. Continue for a 2 minutes then change teams

Points:

1. Head up, observe target

2. Head down, observe the ball

3. Techniques: ankle locked, contact of ball, leg swing

Progression:

1. P – Make area bigger by 10 yards to increase space

Crossing and finishing (20 mins)

Organization:

1. Half of field set up as shown

2. Four lines: 1) Passer/Finisher, 2) Defender, 3) Crosser, 4) Defender

3. Multiple balls at Line 1.

Instructions:

1. Player 1(35 yards) plays a firm ball into the wide chanel of the field for Player 3 to run onto.

2. As Player 3 leaves cone(30 yards), Player 4 also leaves cone(3-5 yards behind player 3) to put pressure on Player 3, in attempt to deny the cross.

3. Player 2 also leaves(3-5 yards behind player 1) to defend Player 1 on the cross.

4. Player 3 crosses the ball into Player 1 who attempts to finish on goal.

5. Rotate players so that they play both offense and defense on all of the spots.

6. Rotate from right side to left side of the field

Coaching Points:

1. Heavy weighted ball to get the ball into wide channel accurately and timely.

2. Quick prep touch and cross from the wide players

3. Proper timing on the runs and anticipation of the cross.

Progressions:

1. P - Add additional attackers

2. R - Take away Line 4
