LB/RB to take Defensive throw in's from within the shaded area.

GK to offer outlet.

RCB to provide outlet and support.in line with the thrower.

LCB to provide support and balance - slightly deeper than thrower - maintaining a defensive line.

LB to be in line with far post and adopt a more attacking position, but ready to drop back if required.

CMF to provide an outlet either to feet or to flick on. If need be, can he swithc with LMF or RMF?

RMF to support CMF for a flick on. If need be, can the RMF switch with CMF or LMF?

LMF ready to make run to provide an outlet to feet. If no space is generated can he switch with CMF or RMF?

CF to occupy opponent's CB's.

Mid Field Throw In

The key to the throw in is the movement of the Mid Field players - can they switch with each other to create space? Can the RMF move into space to receive the ball. Other players, by and large will take up their positions utilising any near space, whilst keeping their shape.

LB/RB to take the throw in.

LCB to drop a little deeper, at an angle, to provide an outlet.

RCB to shuffle to provide support.

RB to remain in line with far post, ready to provide support but also an attacking option - providing a passing option wide if the opportunity arises.

CF to play on the opposition CB's.

CMF to play down the line - providing an outlet to feet or a flick on to LMF. If options are limited, switch with LMF.

LMF to play behind CMF - if options are limited - switch with CMF..

RMF - make a move to provide an outlet to feet or switch with CMF.

Attacking Throw In's

Again, movement of the CMF and LMF and CF is key to creating space for the thrower.

LCB and RCB stay deep to provide cover in case possession is lost.

RMF to take throw.

RB to stay deep at an angle to provide an outlet.

LMF makes a move to create space to receive the ball to feet. LMF and CMF switch if need be to create space.

CMF provides outlet for flick on or to receive the ball to feet. CMF look to switch with LMF or CF to create space to receive the ball.

CF to remain central, ready to receive the ball following flick on from CMF, or passto feet from other player.

LB to press forward, closing the space and ready to join the attack if the ball is played long.

SSG - Throw In's

Organisation

Split players into two teams - 9 red (4-3-1) and 8 blue (3-3-1).

Red team to be coached.

Aim

To provide an opportunity to practice positioning at throw in's.

Instructions

Both teams are instructed to score in the usual manner.

Conditions

No corners - attacking throw in instead from nearest cone.

No goal kicks - defensive throw in instead from nearest cone.

Otherwise, throw ins from wherever the ball goes out of play.
