Warm up reaction activities (25 mins)

Organisation

1 Two 4 yard goals gk in each goal. Both with balls. underarm throw ball in air same time for opposite gk to step acroo and catch

Repeat for 10-12 reps. Then rotate.

Progress to bounce ball on the ground then catch

Key Factors

Hand eye co ordination.

Quick feet

2 Reactions

Gk in bigger goal moves from right to left to touch cone. Gk in smaller goal mirrors movements. If Gk in bigger goal touches cone first he wins a point.

Work/rest 20-30 seconds work/Rest time 2 = 1/2 work/rest ratio.

Key Factors.

Keeping body shape (as if a shot could happen at any time.)

Transfer of body weight to change direction

Reactions always facing play.

3 Dropped Balls

Server Green has ball in each hand. Gk (red) has hands above both balls. Server releases ball to drop to floor. Gk reacts and catches ball with both hands before ball hits the ground.

Work/rest In pairs catch 10-12 then swap. 1/1 work rest

Repeat 2-3 sets. (start on knees to increase difficultly.) (Start with balls higher in the air to make practice easier)

Quick hands to get BOTH hands on ball.

4 Call numbers 1 2 3 or 4 Volley or throw.

Server calls number. Gk moves to cone before coming back to centre of square to catch volley for throw.

Progress to side foot on floor.

Server side foots low to GK1 who rolls back to Server - who either hits low for collapsing save for GK1 or through the gate for GK2 to come and slide on quickly.

GK in front goal can make the save or leave it for GK in big goal to make a save - GK in big goal must shadow all movements of front GK.
