Part I: 4v4+1 & Break Away 2v1 (15 mins)

Organization

- 30 x 50 area set up as shown

- Smaller 30 x 20 area set up as shown

- 12 Players (5 Attackers, 5 Defenders, 1 Support Players & 1 Goalkeeper)

- 3-4 Target gates set up as shown (Speed Poles)

- 1 Full Size Goal set up as shown

- 1 Ball (additional on outside)

Activity

- Players are split into two teams (Yellow vs Red) & compete in a 4v4 possession game inside smaller area. Attacking team can use Support Player (White) to create an overload

- Each team also has one Defender/Target Player standing in the next zone ready to play

- Attacking team aims to dribble through gates to score point. After scoring second point players can break out into the Attacking Zone (see diagram)

- Once entering Attacking Zone the player in possession aims to score past Goalkeeper, using their team mate if needed to create a 2v1

- Once a goal is scored or attack breaks down the attacker who entered Attacking Zone swaps with team mate & becomes the new defender/attacker

Coaching Points

- Possession: Circulation of the ball to stretch & seperate the opposition. Exploit the gaps!

- Support: Be in a position to receive the ball to; dribble through gate? and/or keep possession?

- Awareness: Always scan and take snapshots of your space & surroundings. Whats the picture?

- Transition: Attack with purpose & take advantage of overload. Lure in Defender? Use team mate as Decoy? 1v1 attacking strategies?

- Finishing: Be positive & go for goal. Check position of Defender & Goalkeeper. Can you shoot early?

Progression

P - Attacking team must make 3 consecutive passes before dribbling through a gate

P - Defender can follow Attacker to create 2v2 in Attacking Zone

P - Must play a team mate into Attacking Zone with a penertrating pass

Part II: 2v1 & 3v2 Transition Game (15 mins)

Organization

- 30 x 50 area set up as shown (split into two with 1/2 way line)

- 15 Players (6 Attacker, 7 Defenders & 2 Goalkeepers)

- 2 Full Size Goals

- 1 Ball (additional with Goalkeepers)

Activity

- This activity follows the same sequence (1 to 5) & repeats

- (1) Goalkeeper plays out to either Attacker (Yellow) to begin the attack

- (2) Attacker who receives drives forward with ball supported by team mate (2v1)

- (3) Once Attackers cross halfway line Defender is released & recovers back to help out (2v2)

- (4) Attackers can score at any time in Attacking half - play continues until goal is scored, possession is lost or goal keeper makes save

- (5) Immediately after Attack is finished (goal or no goal) Defender from opposite team (Red) drives into the area with ball to create a transition on attack (3v2). Yellows must now react, recover & become defenders

- Once both attacks have taken place players rotate around the area & the Goalkeeper (Yellow team) restarts the activity

- After set time switch the teams over to experience both scenarios

Coaching Points

- Attacking Strategies: Look to attack at speed & with a purpose!

- Adapt & Adjust: Whats the picture on attack; shoot early? lure the defender to link up? use team mate as decoy? or 1v1 attacking strategies to finish?

- Transition: Reaction to defend! Recover, Re-adjust & React to the situation

- Finishing: Be positive & go for goal. Check position of Defender & Goalkeeper. Can you shoot early?

- Support players can now join the red attacks as previous, but must return to neutral zone before helping

- Red team can circulate the ball & score in any mini goal

- If ball is lost over sidelines teams restart with kick ins

- After set time switch the team responsibilities & goal they can score in

Coaching Points

- Support: Be in a position to receive the ball to; play forward to goal? and/or keep possession?
