4v1 Rondo (20 mins)

Conditions -

All players must

1. Receive on the back foot

2. Play in 2 touch

3. Create passing lines at all times

4. Players feet must be inside the pitch at all times

5. Players must keep their bum on the line

6. The player on the ball must have two supporting players to the left and right that are level with the defender.

7. The game is started with spot and play.

Breaking of these rules result in that player becoming the defender

The game is refereed by the player in the middle, this is to develop mistake management and correct technique.

Skills Corridor (20 mins)

Practice Organisation:

*Set up a channel 10yds wide and 20yds long.

*Each player has a ball.

1. Practice starts with: players dribble the ball through the corridor taking as many touches as possible.

Variations:

*Players must use as many parts of the foot as possible.

*Dribble through with as fewer touches as possible.

*On the way back perform a trick at each mannequin.

*Have players on the side who look to pass the ball across.

*Add a defender in the middle with a ball trying to knock the others out while keeping control of his own ball.

Passing & Receiving (20 mins)

Practice Organisation:

*Set up a 12x12yd square.

*2 players at each point of the square.

*Balls at opposite points.

1. Practice starts with: players A & B play passes in a clockwise fashion around square, play and follow pass.

2. Receive the ball on back foot on continue playing the ball around square.

Variations:

*Dribble the ball and have a "sids" at the corners.

*Player receiving the ball comes towards passer, sets it and moves around cone for passer to lay in.

*Same as above but passer then play around corner to the next point.

1. Quality of pass

2. Tempo of play

3. Timing of movement

4. A set is not a pass - take weight out of ball

5. Communication

6. Receive of back foot - safe side.

2v1 Choice (30 mins)

Set Up

The centre player starts with the ball. All three player start on a red cone.

The centre player passes to his left or right.

The player that didnt receive the pass becomes the defender, creating a 2v1 attack.

The attack finishes when the ball is out of play or a goal is scored.

The players will rotate clockwise after every attack.

Key Points

Attackers:

1. Use of speed

2. Direction of first touch

3. Safe side and protection of the ball

4. Supporting angles and distance

5. When to pass/when to dribble

6. Use of skill

Defender:

1. Reaction to recovery

2. Speed of recovery

3. Get goalside

4. Slow down the attack

5. Deny the opportunity to score/shoot

Recovery Runs (30 mins)

Practice Organisation:

*Area 25x15 yds, with a 5yd end zone, set out as illustrated.

*7 players (incl. GK), arranged 3 Attackrsv 1 Defender, 1 ball.

1. Practice starts with: Coach feeds the ball to one of the 3 A's.

2. After first touch by A's the 2 recovering D's chase back to defend.

3. Practice both with & without off-side restrictions.

4. If D's gain possession or GK saves their objective is to combine to get the ball over the start line.

5. If this is achieved roles are reversed, with A's becoming D's.

Learning Objectives:

1. First D works on delay & slow withdrawal of position to gain time for recovering defensive support.

2. A's look to penetrate quickly

3. Recoving D's work on lines of recovery back to goal.

4. GK's position to support & communicate with D's
