Warm Up (15 mins)

Coordinated warm up. 2 Groups in channeled area. Will perform the following:

1) Jog x2

2) Hamstrings x2

3) Lunges x2

4) Quads x2

Will then add in fast feet elements to increase tempo.

1) Quick Steps

2) Big Strides

3) 3 Quarter Pace

4) 1 Sprint

Technical reps (20 mins)

Organization:

20x24 yd square

players distributed as evenly as possible on each corner

1 ball to start

Instructions:

First player plays driven pass either left or right and follows their pass (joins the end of the line they passed to)

receiving player has 3 touches (1 to control, 1 to set up pass, and 1 to play driven pass)

Follow this sequence

Coaching Points:

Angle of approach – off center

Head up to observe target

Head down at the point of contact

Non kicking foot placed to side, slightly behind the ball

Ankle locked, toe down

Contact ball – slightly off center

Contact foot – 2nd knuckle of the big toe

Body weight forward chest and knee over the ball at contact

Follow through

Observe Target

Choose technique based on distance/space

Passing quality to help next players next action Weight Accuracy (feet, which foot?, space) Timing Disguise

Progressions:

Weak foot passing

See how many passes can be completed in x amount of time

Add another ball

Challenge players to keep touches limited to 3 or 2

Semi/Fully opposed (20 mins)

Organization:

1) 24x10 yd area with 4 yd zone in the center for the defenders

2) Groups of 6 set up as shown

Instructions:

1) One pair starts with the ball in possession

2) They will pass the ball back and forth looking for the opportunity to play a driven pass to beat the defender and find a player on the far side

3) 1 pt for every pass that is succesfully played through the center area to the opposite side without the defender intercepting,

4) Defender scores 1 pt by intercepting the ball

5) rotate after a set amount of time or a set number of points

Coaching Points:

1) First touch at an angle out of feet, head up to observe target

2) Position of standing foot

3) Angle locked, toe pointed down and away

4) Make contact with middle of the ball with laces

5) Follow through toward target

Progressions:

3 touch max

2 touch max

1 defender is allowed to leave middle area to come out and pressure the ball

Regressions:

Only 1 defender

Free Play (20 mins)

Organization:

Shape to create width and length.

Instructions:

None too specific. Let the group play but encourage a change of point of attack with driven pass before scoring.

Encourage driven passes into strikers feet especially,
