Warm up - Dynamic (20 mins)

Organization:

Five cones. First section = 12 yards, second section = 10 yards, third section - 12 yards

Players in two lines either side of cones

Instructions:

Jogging x3

Flicks & Knees Up

Groin stretch, w/twist

Side groin stretch

Open and close the gate

Walk and pull knees up alternately - Quad stretch;

Inside foot pull up while walking;

Hamstring stretch

Skips –alternate arms and twists

50%/75%/100% run.

Static stretches – Achilles, Gluteus

Coaching Points:

First exercise done in section 1 then walk for 10 yards then second exercise in section 3 then always jog back.

Transition game - quick thinking (20 mins)

Organization:

40x30 yard area set up as shown

10/12 players (5 Attackers, 5 Defenders) set up as shown

1 ball (Extras around the outside)

Instructions:

Coach passes a ball to the one set of players. They must complete 6 passes to score a point. Two defenders come across to try to steal the ball. If they win possession and pass back into their own square they score a point. They now try to complete the 6 passes, while the three purple defenders try to steal the ball. If the ball goes out of bounds off of any player the coach passes a new ball into the other square.

Coaching Points:

Creation of angles and triangles

Awareness of space

Quick Decisions

Communication, high tempo, and quick transition.

Encourage constant movement

Progressions:

Add an extra defender

Attackers are only allowed 2 touch

6v6 to three goals/Target player (45 mins)

Organization:

Play 6v6 in a space shown as above - (this can be done in a smaller space with as few as 3v3)

Space uses six small goals as shown

Instructions:

Teams play a normal possession game but can score by passing the ball through any of three goals to their target player.

Timing of runs

Creation of angles and triangles

Weight and angle of passes.

Awareness/Good decisions

Speed of Play

Third defenders cover space on the side of the field away from the ball and also track runners who run at space behind the defense.

Recognise that a defensive role can change in a fraction of a second with a simple pass from one offensive player to another.

Progressions:

Two touch

You can´t pass to the person who gave it to you.

Finish with 6v6 game in 60x40 area;

Look for -

Creation of angles and triangles

Vision and decisions in attack -identifying the extra player

Timing of runs, speed of play, overlaps, one-twos, takeovers and quick transition
