Team of Grace/Competition

Developing First Touch:

Set-up:

5 players: 12 x 12 Grid. One ball per outside perimeter player

Progression:

Competition > how many successful passes can you complete in 30 seconds?

1) Player in middle has to receive and pass with right foot (inside foot)

1b) "" with left foot

2) Player receives with right foot and directionally touches the ball to left foot to pass with left foot

2b) "" receive left and pass right

3) receive with outside part of right foot and pass with same foot

3b) "" left foot

4) receive ball in air and pass back on the ground

4b) "" left foot

Progression: Take one ball out so that there are four perimeter players with only three balls.

- Player in middle has to receive ball from one of their teammates and pass the ball to other player who doesn't have a ball.

Competition:

How many successful passes can you complete in 30 seconds?

Coaching points: How should you receive the ball? Hips open and ball across your body. Players need to scan/peak before receiving the ball. How quickly can you receive and play?

Ball Mastery: (do this for 2 minutes at the start of this session)

1) player makes contact with inside of foot with ball and rolls ball under foot where the sole touches it all by moving forward. Stay with the one foot.

2) player does same thing but alternates with both feet.

4v1 or 3v1 Keep Away (15 mins)

3v1 or 4v1 Keep Away Warm-up Ladder: Grid: 12 X 12 Grid.

Why? Perfect passing & receiving technique with pressure, movement off the ball and supporting angles.

Rules:

-3 minute games

-players count how many times they have gone in the middle. After two minutes the two players that have been in the middle most will move down a grid (unless they are in the last grid). And the two players who were in the least will move up a grid (unless they are in the top grid).

- Play 3 or 4 3 minute keep away games.

- If players complete more than 4 passes then they are in

Coaching Points: Offensive players must always ***receive ball across body with hips open to the field (when is the only time not to? if defender is on you, what can you do?) What should supporting players be doing? No one should ever be standing. Constant adjustments in their movements.

*** needs to be stressed every session, whenever we don't see it happening, we need to address it.

Defending Aerial balls (25 mins)

Training Flat-Three:

Dealing with air balls and/or dribbling from central positions.

Progression:

1) Player will put their head down and serve balls over the top. Defenders will yell side on and start to turn and sprint to be able to deal with the ball.

1b) Add Holding Mid. If Holding mid applies pressure to ball, what does back line do? What if holding mid gets beat and distance is too far to cover? What does backline do?

1c) add forward who checks off of backline. What do backs do? (pressure, cover & balance)

2) what happens if ball is played over top of one of the backs and attacker is breathing down your neck? (hit it out for a throw in; also position your body between the player and ball so that they can't come in front and win it)

Coaching Points: As the ball is about to be played, central defender needs to yell side-on and players turn and start running as they seek to deal with aerial ball.

Players: Addi, Abby, Kelly, Isabelle, Emma, Cody

Pattern Play (25 mins)

Pattern play from the back Progression

8v2 defenders

2) add 3 forwards defending 8 players with one center mid.

3) add one more center mid (total 5 players: 3 forwards vs 2 center mids)

Scoring: Score by dribbling thru gates and/or by switching the point of attack successfully

Players get two points if they score into opposite goal from where they played out of the back from.

Coaching Points: Holding mid may not have much time so when ball is being played into them, they need to release the ball in one or two touch max, but outside mid needs to be an option.
