Warmup (30 mins)

Instructions:

10x40 yard area (30 yards from first cone to last cone)

Instructions:

FIFA 11 Warm-Up

- Each exercise is ran 2x

- Jog back to the start line - use as recovery

- Try to have each pair be in sync/unison

- Next pair doesn't start until pair in front reaches first cones

1) Simple Jog down.

2) "Open the Gate": Drive knee straight up, then twist rotating out;

Alternate legs.

3) "Close the Gate": Knee comes up but at a right angle to the

body, then twist rotating inward; Alternate legs.

4) "Circle Partner": Pair runs to first cone, then still facing forward,

side shuffle towards each other, going around one another in a

tight circle, then shuffle back out to their side of the channel. Run

forward to second cone and repeat.

5) "Jump with Shoulder contact": Pair runs to first cone, then still facing forward, side shuffle towards each other, and jump to bump

shoulders, land softly and shuffle back out to their side of the channel. Run forward to the second cone and repeat.

6) Sprint to the second cone, decelerate to then backpedal to the first cone; sprint to the third cone, decelerate to then backpedal to the

second cone, etc.

7) 75% pace sprint through the channel to opposite end.

8) "Bounding": Drive the knee up as you "jump/bound" across the channel; opposite arm should come up as your knee comes up;

each "step" is a new bound (think long-jump strides).

9) "Plant & Cut": Pairs run across one another to the first cone and plant/cut to then go to cone two; zig-zag across one another

through the length of the channel (slight adjustment from actual activity - see video).

Technical unopposed (15 mins)

Organization:

Groups of 4

2 players on one end of grid, one in the middle, one on the far end.

1 ball per group

Instructions:

Player 2 checks to the ball to receive pass. Player 1 passes to player 2 who receives and turns and play forward to player 3.

Player 1 moves to the middle, player 2 takes player 3's spot, player 3 dribbles back down to other end.

Coaching Points:

Create individual space by checking away to unbalance, then move towards ball.

Recognize space in behind defender.

Check shoulder when checking to scan pressure.

Side on to receive on front foot and turn to face forward.

Decision making depending on angle of pressure/amount of pressure (roll defender/touch and face forward/touch at an angle forward to play forward or dribble).

Player 3 at angle to receive ball from player 2 (play off of his movement).

Progressions:

Competition between groups. Each time we hit the red gate it is a point.

Player 2 rolls with one touch to turn and dribble.

Player 2 takes touch angle an angle wide to play forward.

Technical semi-opposed (15 mins)

Organization:

Groups of 4

2 players on one end of grid, one in the middle, one defender in the middle, one on the far end.

1 ball per group

Instructions:

Player 2 checks to the ball to receive pass. Player 1 passes to player 2 who receives and turns and play forward to player 3.

Player 1 moves to defender, player 2 takes player 3's spot, defender becomes attacker, player 3 dribbles back down to other end.

Coaching Points:

Recognize space in behind defender.

Side on to receive on front foot and turn to face forward to protect ball from defender (straight on is easy to tackle).

Decision making depending on angle of pressure/amount of pressure (roll defender/touch and face forward/touch at an angle forward to play forward or dribble).

Player 3 at angle to receive ball from player 2 (play off of his movement).

Tight with defender to roll and take him out of the game with one touch (If defender defends one specific side, I roll the other way).

If I can't roll, fake to one side and touch at other angle to play forward.

Progressions:

Player 2 rolls with one touch to turn and dribble.

Player 2 takes touch angle an angle wide to play forward.

1v1/2v1 opposed (30 mins)

Organization:

One white attacker and one blue defender in middle, one white attacker as end player, One blue defender outside grid.

One GK in goal.

Instructions:

Player 1 passes to player 2 who turns to either: 1. play a pass to player 3 and get it back fror 1v1 to goal. or 2. Dribble through red gate for 1v1 to goal.

Player 1 becomes defender, defender becomes player 2, player 2 becomes player 3, and player 3 becomes 1v1 defender.

Coaching Points:

After turning defender, dribble behind him towards red gate to eliminate him.

Recognize space created behind defender, space to play to player 2 and get it back for 1v1.

Accelerate after rolling defender to take advantage of space, and to leave defender out of game.

Progressions:

Player 3 joins in for 2v1 to goal.

First defender can recover to create 2v2.

Free play, no restrictions.

Coaching Points:

Can receive to turn and play forward?

If I cannot turn can I use skill to still play forward or combine with supporting players to solve the game?
