SAQ (10 mins)

Organization:

1. Two lines of equal numbers.

2. 10 x 15 Yard Area.

Instructions:

1. Players do dynamic stretches and coordination movements through the middle and jog on the way back.

2. Next player in the line goes as soon as the player in front gets to the middle cones.

Technical (15 mins)

Instructions:

A passes to D. Upon D's first touch A becomes a passive defender. D drives at A and beats them with a scissors. Players switch places. B then plays to C and they do the same. Process repeats.

Coaching Points:

- Quality of long pass

- Positive first touch (drive at defender with speed)

- quality of scissors (Messi touches, timing of move, ronaldo touch to beat defender and accelerate away)

Semi-opposed (20 mins)

Instructions:

A passes to B. B drives a long pass across to C. C commits B (passive defender) and plays the pass to D who is overlapping. Rotation: A - B - C - D.

Coaching Points:

- Checks before receiving ball

- Quality of driven pass (low and hard)

- Commit defender on dribble (drive at defender with speed and control)

- Commit defender centrally (to open up two options)

- Dribble with ball closest to supporting player (outside of the foot pass to play them in)

- Communication (Hold, Through) of overlapping player

- Shape and timing of run

- Quality of pass through (weight, direction)

Defender is now live on C's first touch. Play 2v1 to the endlines.

Coaching Points:

- Checks before receiving ball

- Quality of driven pass (low and hard)

- Commit defender on dribble

- Commit defender centrally to open up two options either side

- Dribble with ball closest to support, outside of the foot flick pass to play them in

- Communication (Hold, Through) of overlapping player

- Shape and timing of run

- Quality of pass through (weight, direction)

- Recognising when to make the overlapping run (player on ball driving infield) and when to support underneath ball.

- Transition upon winning/losing the ball

Conditioned Game (25 mins)

Instructions:

2v2 game. When ball crosses the endline the defending team drop out and a new team bring a new ball on from behind that goal. Player who scored/missed must touch the goal before rejoining the game again, leaving a 2v1 for the new team on to attempt to exploit. Attacking team must be in oppositions half to score a goal.

Coaching Points:

- Anticipation and awareness of space and quick attack

- Recognising numbers up (2v1) and exploiting it

- Committing the defender and either passing late to support or beating them yourself

- Runs and movement of the support player (must stay onside)

- Finish!

Progressions:

Competition; First to 5 wins.
