Warm--Up (20 mins)

Organization

1 ball/player. Players play within 5 m x 5 m grids, with central cone. Players execute core footwork moves at any of 5 cones within their work area. Moves can include a) inside/insides b) Toe Taps c) Insides/Toe Taps Combinations etc. . Add other sized balls ie tennis ball/skill balls to challenge players

Have players work for 1 minute low pace/1 minute 60-70% and 30 secs full-pace with 1 minute rest between each move

Coaching Points:

1) Ball under close control - 1 step away

2) Quick feet - on toes

3) Positive touches -with intent

4) Head up to see options

SAQ (10 mins)

Organization:

3 lines of players. Work on Speed, Agility and Quickness.

a) Begin by having players sprint to each cone and stop quickly

b) Progress to breaking right or left at 2nd and 3rd cone. After breaking right or left players will backpedle horizontal and then sprint forward to next cone

c) Add ball

Coaching Points:

1)Importance of 1st step – use back leg as spring

2)Pump Arms for power

3)Keep head steady

4)On toes - stay off heals

Progression:

Make it competetive with races

Technique (20 mins)

Organization:

Three attacking players pass back and forth until the cone directly in front of them. Once they reach beyond that cone they can attack one of three goals- central goal or either one of two goals on sides.

Coaching Points: (Defending)

1) Apply early pressure on ball

2) Stay on toes

3) Body position to dictate where attacker goes

4) Change of direction/pace to keep up with attackers movements

SSG (20 mins)

Organization:

SSG - 5v5 with goalkeepers. Once a team scores, they must defend for 60 secs successfully before the goal stands.

Coaching Points:

1) Early pressure on ball

2) Force opposition to one side - make play perdictable

3) Pressing triggers - a) Opposition has poor 1st touch b) Opposition play backwards c) Good pressure on ball

Game (20 mins)

Let them play! For quick transition, set the condition that once score must then attack the opposite goal
