Main Theme 2 (20 mins)

Organization:

- Three lines, three cones per line, three players per line.

- Two players are located at the bottom, one opposite end.

Instructions:

- The line with two players will go first

- The player will dribble toward the middle cone (defender) and perfrom a feint to get around the cone and to the other side of the grid.

-Depending on how well they grasp the new move, can work on additional moves such as the roll.

Coaching Points:

- Execution of the feint, acceleration afterwards to beat the defender.

Progressions:

- Eliminate the middle cone, and have the line of two players, pass a ball to the opposite end. The receiver will then dribble at the player who initiated the sequence. (The passer is now a defender), and the receiver must perform a feint to beat the defender to the other side.

Organization:

-20x30 yard grid

-3 defenders with pinnies in hand (shown as blue players)

-Every other player is attacker and has ball

Instructions:

-Attackers start with 10 points, defenders with 9.

-If defender touches an attackers ball or they force them to dribble outside of grid, they switch roles (attacker takes pinnie, defender takes ball) and the original attacker loses a point.

-No 'tag backs'

-Winner is player with most points after certain time period.

Coaching Points:

-Head up as dribble to observe space/defenders

-Ball close when defenders trying to steal ball, bigger touches when find space to go into

-Use body to protect ball as dribble

-Correct technique (knee over ball, pinky toes touches etc.)

Progressions:

-Use the activity to create the larger picture of asking how do we beat a player 1v1, when and where can we do this? If the players are presented with this bigger picture problem, now move on and break it down by working on different moves to help players beat defenders 1v1.

Add or remove number of defenders depending on level of players

Coaching Points:

- Head up.

- Close Control.

- Encourage moves.

- Decide when to dribble at speed or when to slow down.
