Intro to Activity

Organization:

Players will all be given ball in a scrimmage sized grid to dribble around freely in order to work on their footwork.

Instructions:

Players will dribble around freely until the coach places the condition that when two players near each other, they must use the sole of their foot for the next five touches. The next condition is that the players must perform a move every five dribbles.

Coaching Points:

Keeping the ball close

Being balanced and in control of touches

Knowing where the ball is at

Keeping head up

Confidence on the ball

Problem solving the best ways to touch the ball

Creativity and patience are heavily encouraged

Main Activity 1

Organization:

Players will all be given ball in a scrimmage sized grid to work on the mechanics of their moves in order to work on their footwork.

Instructions:

Players will be lined up facing the inside of the grid. They will then work on feinting at the cone, lifting their heads up and passing into the other line.

Coaching Points:

Keeping the ball close

Being balanced and in control of touches

Problem solving the best ways to touch the ball

Creativity and patience are heavily encouraged

Main Activity 2

Organization:

Players will all be given ball in a scrimmage sized grid to work on the mechanics of their moves in game like situations in order to work on their footwork.

Instructions:

Players will be lined up facing the inside of the grid. they will play a pass to the other side of the grid and then play 1v1 until the ball goes out of play or a goal is scored. They will then work on various moves to gauge their level of skill with not only their footwork, but their passing, receiving, and ability to play under pressure as well.

Coaching Points:

Players will be encouraged to face up and use tactical thinking and technical skill to score a goal.

Progressions:

Players may progress to 2v2 situations.

Conditioned Game

Organization:

Standard size scrimmage grid with a small endzone one yard in depth.

Instructions:

Players will pay a possession game where the way to score points is to dribble into the endzones.

the players will then progress to a possession game where they can only move forward if they dribble the ball.

The playes can only score if they stop the ball in the endzone.

Coaching Points:

Players will need to be comfortable dribbling with the ball and taking players on 1v1.

Players will need to be well balanced and practice good technique to be successful in this game.

Players are encouraged to be creative and fearless taking players on.

Progressions:

The endzone can become an opposed area of play.

Players will have a smaller space to dribble (making the endzone deeper on the pitch)

Making the endzone more narrow.

Players may only use the sole of their foot to score.

Players may only dribble with the sole of the foot.
