Warm up

16 Players total: 2 groups of 8.

-Passing diamond: 4 players work in each diamond and focus on quality passing and receiving skills.

-2 touch pass and receive

-Receive and make "cut" with the ball

-Pass and support

-Pass follow, set, play to 3rd man, repeat.

Coaching points:

Worked on teh technique of the passes as it needs good passes, firm, and precise.

Long ball to the target.

3 v 1 - Three zone possession box

-3 v 1 Possession in one end area. 2nd defender stays alert to intercept any passes attempted through or over the middle zone to players in the far box.

-Players in possession move the ball quickly to a player with some time and space to hit an accurate target pass to the far box. Play resumes in far box with the defenders changing roles.

Small Sided

16 total players: 2 teams of 8 split into two groups of 4 + 2 GK's

Upon winning possession - counter quickly

-Blue shirt team scores in goal #1. Yellow shirt team scores in goal #2.

-Gk's cannot score but can be used by either team in possession.

-3 minutes games with combined score

-Quick transition in both attack and defense.

Coaching points:

He gave the team different options of how to apply the counter.

1. Sending the ball long to the target and support with runs out wide.

2. Dribbling in and having runners on weak side to umbalance defenders

3. Passing people in with passes in fron to lead them in the run.

Quick counter-attacks with strikes on goal

-Full pitch with a 20 yrd. wide zone across the full width as diagrammed. Defending team has 8 + GK in own half vs. the attacking team with 4 forwards + 3MF players joining in unopposed. (7 v. 8 +GK).

-Defending team has a free player in center zone (unopposed) and one CF in the attacking half (marked).

-When the defending team wins the ball, they attempt to advance the ball forward with passes to front players or running with ball out of MF as quickly as possible with the support 3 players from the back half. 3 MFs who joined the attack towards goal are allowed to recover to defend vs. the counter attack. Counter attacking team has 12 secs. to strike on goal after gaining possession.

Coaching points:

1. Gave them patterns to get in behind such as:

Finding number 10 andthis laying it off to a support player who woul play the third mn run from #9.

Dribbling in and #10 and(9 spinning to wid areas.

He coach th type of runsfom th forwardst make sure they are not offsides.

Also coached winning the ball back in central areas as th higher percentages of of efective counters com from winning the ball bc in cntral areas.

Coach the defense dropping deep as this would make the other team come forward and open space.

Key Factors for counter-attacking to include:

-Strategy to steal the ball (defend deep)

-Speed of thought and action upon winning possession.

-Support for the counter-attack (sustain the momentum)

-Strike on goal - finish the attack

-"Cover up" on the counter attack
