Warm Up (10 mins)

Organization:

-Every Player with ball in 20x30 grid

Instructions:

PART I:

-Players dribble using messi touches and ronaldo touches, choosing the correct time for each, ie close spaces use messi touches, open space use ronaldo touches.

-After a few minutes, challenge is introduced. Players now race to 50+ touches using Messi, Ronaldo, or a combination of the two.

-Throw in tic-toc's, toe taps, brushes, pull push

PART II:

-Players dribble throughout area using any part of foot and wait for different commands

1) Change-When coach shouts change players must leave their ball and find a new one

2) Outside- When coach yells outside all players must dribble out of the boundary stop the ball and come back in.

Coaching Points:

-Head up to see available space

-Keep ball close when in crowded area (can you take a touch every step you take)

-If see good area of space take bigger touch/accelerate into it

-Use correct dribbling technique (pinky toe touches, knee over ball)

Progressions:

-If lose ball outside of area, or hit another player/ball you lose 10 counts in race to 50.

The Roll (20 mins)

Organization:

- Five lines, three cones per line, three players per line.

- Two players are located at the bottom, one opposite end.

Instructions:

- The line with two players will go first

- The player will dribble toward the middle cone (defender) and perfrom the different moves already worked on to get around the cone and to the other side of the grid.

Coaching Points:

- Execution of the different moves, acceleration afterwards to beat the defender.

Progressions:

- Eliminate the middle cone, and have the line of two players, pass a ball to the opposite end. The receiver will then dribble at the player who initiated the sequence. (The passer is now a defender), and the receiver must perform a move to beat the defender to the other side.

Knockout (10 mins)

Organization:

- One ball per player inside of the circle.

Instructions:

- Each player will now be dribbling freely inside of the grid.

- Objective: Maintain control of your ball while trying to get other peoples balls to leave the field.

- Last man standing, wins that round.

-Players that are eliminated perform ball mastery repetitions on the outside of the grid.

Coaching Points:

- Be creative! Experiment! Take chances!

1v1's (20 mins)

Organization:

- 12x8 yard fields

Instructions:

- Defender will pass a ball down to the attacker

- This initiates the 1v1 play

- Keep playing until the ball goes out or a goal is scored.

- Take turns serving to each other.

Coaching Points:

- When to dribble at speed

- Beat your defender one time, and go to goal quickly

- First touch, controlled, going forward

Progressions:

1v1 Tournanament, "MLS Cup"
