Warm Up (15 mins)

Organization:

1. Area set up as shown.

2. Two players with pinnies as defenders, the rest are attacking.

3. One ball with additional if needed.

Instructions:

1. Attacking players will play keep away from the defenders.

2. Play starts with the first pass being free, attackers pass the ball around the area trying to keep it away from defenders. 

3. If a defender wins the ball, they switch places with the player that lost the ball to the defender.

4. If the pass goes outside of the circle, the player that made the bad pass, or the player that did not properly receive the ball will take the place of the defender that has been in the middle the longest.

5. Defenders will play for 3 minutes and/or until they win the ball. 

Coaching Points:

1. Passing: weight, accuracy, to feet, into space

2. First touch

3. Communication

Progressions:

1. P - Make area smaller

2. R - Make area larger

3. P - Limit the number of touches.

Main Theme 1 (20 mins)

Organization:

1. Create a 10X10 area with a cone placed 10 yards from the area from each side.

2. Split the team evenly into 2 groups, set up as shown.

3. Multiple balls set up around area.

Instructions:

1. The attacking team dribbles at the defender and attempts to dribble through the other side of the grid by beating the middle defender.

2. If the player successfully makes it through the grid and out the other side by dribbling, he then plays to the first player in the line he is facing.

3. The next player again takes on the defender in the middle.

4. If the defender wins the ball, or the ball is knocked out the sides of the grid, the player losing the ball becomes the defender.

5. The defending team now becomes the attacking team, attempting to get through to the other side and pass to the next player in line.

6. Defender will defend for 2 minutes and/or until ball is won or knocked out of bonds.

4. Correct moments to tackle

5. Faint to tackle to force a mistake

Main Theme 2 (20 mins)

Organization:

1. 40x30 area set up as shown.

2. Two pug goals set up on opposite sides.

3. Multiple balls by each attacking starting point.

Instructions:

1. The attackers attempt to dribble through the grid directly in front of them and shoot on goal.

2. The defenders attempt to deny they player from dribbling through the grid.

3. Play is done when the defender wins the ball, or the ball is knocked out the sides of the grid.

4. The team of defenders will defend 2x for each attacker. Activity will continue until each player has player defender.

1. Deny penetration

2. Speed of approach

3. Angle of approach force player on to weak side

4. Correct moments to tackle

5. Faint to tackle to force a mistake

6. Tackling techniques

Progressions:

1. P - Allow defenders to defend entire area

Main Theme 3 (20 mins)

Organization:

1. Create a 15X15 yard area about 18 yards from goal.

2. One defender in the box, attackers the cone.

3. One ball per attacking player.

Instructions:

1. The first player in line dribbles into the grid, attempts to beat the defensive player, and dribble out the other end of the grid and score a goal.

2. If the ball is won by the defensive player, or dribbled out either of the sides of the grid, the play is done and the attacking player retrieves ball and goes back.

3. The defender will play against each attacker twice then switch. Activity will continue until each player has played defense against each attacker twice.

4. Correct moments to tackle

5. Faint to tackle to force a mistake

6. Tackling techniques

Progressions:

1. P- Make the grid bigger to make it easier for the attackers and more difficult for the defenders.

2. R - Make the grid smaller to make it more difficult for the attackers and easier for the defenders.
