Practice 1

Organization / Instructions - Ball starts with goalkeeper (1). As soon as they touch the ball, 4 and 5 split to edge of the area, 2 and 3 go high and wide. Ball is played to 4 or 5. Aim is for the whites to try and dribble the ball over the halfway line. If they do the ball is restarted from the middle of the field by the opposite team.

Blue team, they must start behind the line in the shaded area and may press when either of the CB's receive the ball. If they can get the ball from the whites, they go to goal. If not they play as soon as the whites get the ball over the halfway line from player A and try to score.

Coaching points: None as yet, get pattern of play fixed.

Practice 2

Organization: Same as previous drill.

Instructions: 6 on the white team to have a more structured role. Must play infront of the 4 and 5.

Coaching Points:

1) For the number 6 - Positioning when their team has the ball to receive and ready to cover, discipline, delay the attacking team to allow other team players to recover, fill the passing lanes, make attackers play away from goal, awareness.

2) recovery by the rest of the team into defensive positions as shown by arrows. Should make a 4,3 shape and with a full team 4-5-1.

Progressions: Full pitch 11v11 to bring in roles of 7,9 and 11 if the opposition wins the ball.
