1 v 1 Warm-Up (20 mins)

1 v 1 Warm Up: 2 Players 1 ball:

In this warm-up exercise we will review our 1 v 1 Defending Principles. Play will start when the Defender plays the ball to the Attacker's feet. The 1st Defender will "get their quick and arrive under control," forcing play a certain direction, keeping the correct distance from the Attacker. The Defender will then "jockey" the Att. until they hear a whistle. When they hear the whistle, the Att will leave the ball and assume a good 1st Defender position.

1v1,2v1,3v2 Transition (20 mins)

1 v 1, 2 v 1, 3 v 2 Transition Game: 14 players.

Play will begin by the Att player (white) going 1 v 1. Regardless of what happens, the Att becomes the defender and now the Blue sends out 2 players to go 2 v 1 against White. Again, regardless of the result, the Attackers now become Defenders. White then sends out 3 Att players to go 3 v 2 against Blue. Play then starts over at 1 v 1....and so on...

This game incoporates a lot of taking people on, shooting and making quick defensive decisions. Defensively speaking, we are looking for the 1st Defender to: 1) Slow the attack down 2) Force play a certain direction 3) Stay patient 4) Tackle hard.

We are looking for the 2nd Defender to: 1) Cover the 1st Defender in case he gets beat on the dribble 2) Communicate where 1st Defender should force ball 3) Ensure that the Defense DOES NOT get split. 4) Be ready to transition to 1st Defender when necessary.
