1v1 Progression - Coerver (20 mins)

Practice Organisation:

- 20x20yd area marked out by 4 mini goals.

- Players split into equal teams each with a ball either end of area, as illustrated.

- 1 x 5yd gate either side of mannequin.

- Practice starts with: first player dribbles towards mannequin, both players perform a right drag push and go to the right through the side gate.

- Both players finish in goal.

- As soon as players have shot next players go.

- Go both left and right using a variety of skill/tricks/feints.

- Practice is continuous.

Learning Objectives:

- Accelerate away quickly.

- Correct technique.

- Use arm to keep body between ball and defender.

- Safe side. get ball on foot away from shadow (whether he's committed to you or not.

- Timing of trick/skill/feint (distance from mannequin).

Passing Pattern 1 (20 mins)

Learning Objectives

To improve passing & receiving

1. Player A takes a touch out of feet and plays a pass to B and follows their pass

2. Player B as player A takes a touch out from feet checks away and back to the ball

3. As Player B receives the ball, player C checks away and back to receive

4. Player C receives the ball from B and passes to D

5. Player D passes to E

All players follow their pass

4v1 Rondo (20 mins)

Conditions -

All players must

1. Receive on the back foot

2. Play in 2 touch

3. Create passing lines at all times

4. Players feet must be inside the pitch at all times

5. Players must keep their bum on the line

6. The player on the ball must have two supporting players to the left and right that are level with the defender.

7. The game is started with spot and play.

Breaking of these rules result in that player becoming the defender

The game is refereed by the player in the middle, this is to develop mistake management and correct technique.

Defending Outnumbered (3v4) (40 mins)

Practice Organisation

Area 40x30 yards set out in equal thirds with goals at each end.

14 players (+2 GKs), with defenders out numbered 3v4 in each end third.

Practice starts with Neutral players in middle third, serve ball into Attackers & support play from behind, without entering end third.

Objective of practice, Defenders play outnumbered to pvevent Attackers from scoring, gain possession and in to Neutral player to score one point.

Rotate roles of players.

Details

Distance between 3 defenders when being attacked by four opponents.

Communication, changing roles and working with GK as sweeper.

Deflecting attacks away from central goal scoring areas. (put them wide)

Balanced, controlled 1v1 defending skills. (stay patient)

Defenders identifying opportunity to pass or run with ball on gaining possession. (turn the lightswitch/transition to attack) (find target whether dribbling or playing a penetrating ball.

Key Coaching Points

- Blocking shots.

- Pressing man on ball and employing delaying tactics to avert attack.

- Marking and covering

- Winning ball and quickly playing forward to Neutral player.
