Review: Attacking 1v1 moves - Shoulder drop, Stanley Matthews, Elastico, Scissor. (1) Drive into space with small Messi touches, after performing the move take a explosive, Ronaldo touch, out and into space. (2) Unbalance defenders with body and move. (3) Cut against the defenders front foot. (4) After exploding cut back into space left behind. (5) Finish on goal or to target.

Introduce: Defense; Reading good vs. bad touches.

Key Points: (1) Close space down quickly. (2) Arms distance away, low center of gravity. (3) Light on feet. Shuffling backwards. (4) Identification of bad touch. (5) Reaction/Final touch to steal in positive direction.  * Block tackle vs Poke tackle *

Organization:

5 players per grid

Set up as shown

Instructions:

1. Players lined up on the outside of the channel. Each player with a "pinnie tail"

2. Each channel will start off with one defender. Players must attempts to make it past the defender while stay inside of the channel and keeping their "pinnie tail".

3. In order to earn a point the players (on offense) must run through one of the two side gates, and defenders must try to steal "pinnie tails"

4. Once the attacking player has cross the gates he/she then becomes the defender and the defender returns to the back of the line.

Coaching Points:

1. Keep head up - (1) read the defender's movement and (2) find the open space

2. Change in speed and direction

3. Keep the pinnie tail from being exposed to the defender (body positioning)

4.Use of body fakes and feints to get away from the defender

Center obstacle set up as shown

Instructions:

1. Player A dribbles towards middle obstacle, performs the given move / technique (Shoulder drop; Ronaldo Chop; Scissors), and joins the end of the opposite line.

2. Player B begins on Player A's eye contact after coming out of the move.

Coaching Points:

1. Static or very controlled approach driving at the defender's front foot. 

2. Timing / Exaggeration of move - just outside tackling radius / shoulder, knee, eyes.

3. Body shape - low center of gravity.

4. Eyes up, identification of space, change of speed, appropriate angle taken for next movement.

Progressions:

(P1) - Players must pass coming out of move.

(P2) - Remove middle cones, partners perform skills on each other (passive pressure)

1v1 Defending - Tracking (25 mins)

Organization:

20 x 15 yard area set up as shown

4 Players

1 Ball (Additional around the outside)

Instructions:

1. Red player passes the ball into the blue player and quickly closes down the space in between.

2. Blue player dribbles toward the opposite endline varying between Messi and Ronaldo touches.

3. Red player is looking to identify big touches in which he/she maybe able to steal the ball, by tapping it with his/her finger tips.

Coaching Points:

1. Angle, speed and distance of approach

2. Deny space and penetration

3. Low center of gravity

4. Body weight on back leg, allowing front foot to poke the ball away

5. Body positioning - On the outside shoulder of the attacker; low center of gravity; feet staggered.

6. 1v1 scenario - Can you force the player out of bounds. Using the sideline as a 2nd defender.

Organization:

15 x 20 (maybe adjusted to increase/decrease tempo)

4 players per group

Two gates on each endline set up as shown

1 Ball; Extras on the side

Instructions:

1. Defender (blue) passes the ball into the attacker (yellow).

2. Defender cannot win the ball until the attacker take his first touch.

3. Attacker scores by passing into the goals or dribbling through the gates.

4. Defender scores by stealing the ball and scoring.

5. Players switch lines.

6. First player to 10 wins, switch fields.

Coaching Points:

1. Angle, speed and distance of approach

2. Deny space and penetration

3. Low center of gravity

4. Body weight on back leg, allowing front foot to poke the ball away

5. Body positioning - On the outside shoulder of the attacker; low center of gravity; feet staggered.

2v2 with Targets (25 mins)

Organization:

20 x 15 yard area set up as shown

4-6 players

1 Ball (Additional around the outside)

Instructions:

1. Blue player passes the ball into the red player and quickly closes down the space in between.

2. Red player is looking to score by shooting in the goal. If he/she can't get by the defender they may pass the ball back to a supporting player to get a 2nd attacker involved.

3. If defender dispossesses the ball from the red player he/she may score on the opposite goal.

4. First player to 7 points wins.

Coaching Points:

1. Angle, speed and distance of approach

2. Deny space and penetration

3. Low center of gravity

4. Body weight on back leg, allowing front foot to poke the ball away

5. Body positioning - On the outside shoulder of the attacker; low center of gravity; feet staggered.
