Warm Up (10 mins)

Warm Up - 12 mins

Organisation

Three groups. One on the outside x 6 / Two teams of three in the middle. Groups in the middle pass and move in threes in the central area. Players from the outside dribble to another outside player. Swap roles.

Variations

dribbling - right foot only, left foot only, inside /outside

passing - two touch / one touch / receive between two players

Coaching Points

- accurate passes

- dribble pass with head up

Competition

- Can the passing team get five times as many passes as dribbles in 90 seconds?

Technical Practise (5 mins)

Technical Practise - 5 mins

Organisation

Two teams of six each in a 30x30yd box. Blue team start in possession of one ball. The white team stand on flat cones until the blues make their fifth pass then check shoulder and move into a space to receive. The sixth pass by the blues goes into the white team and the pattern continues with the blues now standing on flat cones.

Progression

The passing team can choose when they pass across and the receivers must change their angles to receive accordingly

- Accurate passes

- Constant movement when in possession

- Scan shoulders when awaiting possession

- Timing of movement to receive the ball in space

Technical Practise - Progression (15 mins)

Organisation

Quickly progress to adding pressure. Blues start with the ball and aim to keep possession under pressure from three white players. The remaining white players stand on flat cones in their area. These whites identifying triggers that would result in possession being won back to then check into space. If whites win it back they transfer the ball to the other whites and three blues enter their area and the game continues.

Progression

- If team in possession gets 10 passes another defender can enter the area.

Coaching Points

- Identification of turnover triggers (heavy touch, aerial pass, double pressing opportunity) to check off cone to receive

- Timing of movement off cone

- Detail of passing and first touch

Organisation

6v6 on 30 x 30 yd pitches with a mini goal at each end as shown. Coaching emphasis is on the movement of players into space upon transition. Each team can score into two designated goals.

Progression

- Teams can score in any goal.

Coaching Points

- Identification of turnover triggers (to check into appropriate space)

- Importance of first pass upon winning possession back to secure possession (unless killer pass is on)

- Quick decisons (thinking about pass before receiving the ball)

- Communication
