Ball Mastery/Prior to the beginning of session (20 mins)

Organization: open space

6 players or as many as you have at that moment

6 balls(additional available for other arriving players)

Instructions: Players will work on ball mastery with coach

Do this until majority of players arrive or session time begins

Players follow coach's directions and movements

work on L Turn, Roll Across(same foot), as well as other ball mastery skills

Coaching Points: -correct contact on the ball

-correct surface of the foot

Warm-Up (10 mins)

Organization: 20 by 20 area

12 players

1 ball per player

Instructions: All players dribble around in area

On coach's call "switch", players stop their ball from moving, and start dribbling a new one

one ball is removed every 30 seconds, leaving one more player without a ball each time

players without a ball must try to steal one from someone who has one

if a ball is stolen, that player must steal one from another player

play for a set time

Coaching Points: -head up

- change direction/speed

-accelerate away

-correct surface of your foot

-positive touch(messi, ronaldo)

Visual Cues: -distance to defender

Progressions:P-restrict surfaces of foot that players can use

R-Add in more balls than players

Main Theme (20 mins)

Organization: 15 by 10 area divided into two 15 x 5

6 players(3 attackers, 3 defenders)

3 balls

Instructions: Attackers score by dribbling over either end line before the defending player can run across it

Defending players have to mirrior attacker and beat them to end line

Attackers and defender must stay in their own areas

Attackers have 5 seconds to score

Play for two minutes then change attackers and defenders

Coaching Points:-postive first touch(nomore than 2 feet from body)

-get defender moving at full speed

-correct technique

-be creative

Visual Cues:-defenders body positioning and distance

-distance to end line

Progressions: P-remove divide and play with full pressure

R-reduce distance

Main Theme 2 (20 mins)

Organization: 30 by 44 area

12 players(5 attackers, 3 defenders, 1 Gk, 2 targets, 1 server)

12 balls

Instructions:server starts the game by playing to any of the attackers who then attempt to score

defenders attempt to win the bal and score by playing to either of the counter targets

attackers can only go forward by dribbling and are only allowed to pass sideways or backwards

if the ball leaves the field or a forward pass is played the game is restarted from the server

Play for a set time or number of balls, then rotate players

Coaching Points: -controlled approach

-attack defender with speed and at their front foot

-timing of move

-change speed/direction

-cut into space behind defender

-head up

Visual Cues:-distance of 1st defender to attacker

-positioning of 2nd and 3rd defenders

-attacker gets positive or negative first touch(ball nomore than 2 feet from body)

Progressions: P-play 5 v 4

R-attacking team is allowed to pass forward

Conditioned Game (20 mins)

Organization: 30 by 20 area

12 players (4 teams of 4, 1 team resting)

1 ball (additional on the outside)

Instructions: Each player is assigned a letter A, B, C, or D

opposing players are paired with opposite letter, and may only steal from this player

if defensive player steals from wrong partner, a free kick is awarded

goal is scored by dribbling through central goal at opposing end

if ball goes out, team restarts with pass or dribble in

if goal is scored, conceding team restarts with a dribble in from own end line

first team to score wins, with losing team switching with resting team

Coaching Points:-controlled approach

-timing of move

-change speed/direction

-head up

-accelerate away

-attack front foot

-play at speed

Visual Cues:-defenders body positioning

-distance from attacker to defender

Progressions:P-increase area

R- allow players to steal from anyone

Free Play/Scrimmage (20 mins)

Organization: two 20 by 20 areas

4 teams of 5 players(20 players total)

1 ball per game(additional on the outside)

Instructions: Teams play small sided games 5 v 5

regaular game rules apply(corner kicks, goal kicks, throw-ins)

play for a set time and then rotate teams

if ball goes out of bounds, play is restarted with throw-in

if goal is scored, scoring team must have all of their players run back and touch their goal, before being allowed to defend

Coaching Points: -play at speed

-attack front foot of defender

-once defender is beat, take space behind defender

-timing/execution of fake/feints

- body poistioning-low center of gravity

Visual Cues: -does defender pressure or delay

-positioning of 2nd defender(is there space behind 1st dfender we can exploit)
