Key Principle - Effective Possession.

Session Objective: To improve the players ability (7 & 11) to receive the ball in a wide position and be able to run with the ball towards the target.

Skill Intro (20 mins):

10 players (2 grids), 5 players on each half grid.

Play starts at station 1 (7), runs with the ball towards station 2 (9) and plays a pass. (7) then makes the field as big as possible. (9) then plays a bounce pass to station 3 (4). (4) then plays a forward ball to (7) who can run with the ball through the target at the end of the pitch. Once (4) plays the ball forward, another ball starts at station 5 and follows the same sequence. The wide player will be (11).

** after 5 minutes, players from stations 2 & 3 swap with plares at station 1.

** after 10 minutes, players from the right hand side swap with the players on the left hand side. All players get a turn in the 7 & 11 position.

Step up: Station 1 & 5 start at the same time, fastest team through gets a point.

Looking for players in the 7 & 11 postion to make the park as big as possible once they have passed the ball to the 9. They then need to be in a position to see the ball coming back to them and also see where the goals are so they can run with the ball.

Skill Training (25mins) (25 mins)

Core Skill - Running with the Ball.

Specific Aspect - Ensuring 7 & 11 stay as wide as possible to receive the ball and be in a position to run with the ball towards goal.

Key Principle - Effective Possession.

Session Objective: To improve the players ability (7 & 11) to receive the ball in a wide position and be able to run with the ball towards the target.

Skill Training (25 mins):

10 players (2 grids)

6 v 4

6 is attacking team, objective is to get 7 or 11 to run with the ball through one of the goals. Team with 4 is defending team, objective is to score a goal.

** Change groups after 12 minutes so the defenders get a turn of attacking. **

Player Tasks:

Get the ball to 7 & 11 quickly, so they can run with the ball through the goals. If they can't go forward play the ball backward or sideways.

Move the ball away from traffic, play the ball as quick as you can to the player in space.

Make the pitch as big as possible whilst in possession.

Keep the ball under control whilst running with it.

Coaches Cues:

Can you see all of the park when receiving the ball?

Can we get the ball to 7 & 11 quickly?

How can I tell which option (7 or 11) is the best to aim for?

If we can't run the ball through the goals, where do we go?

Step Up's: All players on the attack team to touch it before trying to score a goal. Shot clock.

Step Down: remove a defender and add to attack team.

Hidden learning: if attack team looses the ball, need to quickly transition into a BPO position (make the field small) to try and win back possession / stop a goal being scored as quick as possible.
