8v8 Possession (20 mins)

Setup:

0-3-2-3 vs 0-3-2-3

60x80 field with a central midfield zone of 50x60

Activity:

10 passes = 1 point

Dribble/pass across line = 1 point

Coaching Points:

~ #7/9/11 checking into midfield (must first stretch field)

~ Opposite movements: come short to receive long; fake long to receive short

~ #2/3 providing width

5v5+5 dismarking (15 mins)

Intervals:

3 min work + 1 min rest x 3 reps = 12 min

Setup:

3 teams of 5

40x40 grid

1 ball per team

Activity:

5v5 on the inside plus 5 extra jokers (4 on outside pluse 1 in middle). Team in possession tries to complete 5 passes to inside player for a point (passes to jokers don't count).

Defenders MUST man-mark.

Coaching Points:

~ Pass and move (might be big run or little movement to find pocket of space)

~ Spacing (maximize spaces between for longer passes)

~ Combinations (give & go, overlap, 3rd man run, dummy, in-set-through)

~ Opposite movement to lose marker

5v5+5 (15 mins)

Intervals:

4 min work + 1 min rest x 3 reps = 15 min

Setup:

3 teams of 5

40x40 grid

Activity:

2 teams work inside the grid, while 3rd team actively rests as bumpers on outside.

Team in possession scores by making 5 passes inside the grid. They can use the outside bumpers to maintain possession but those passes don't count towards the 5.

Coaching Points:

~ Spacing: maximize spacing to create more time on ball

~ Awareness: check shoulders - "Good players look" (don't watch the ball)

~ Communication: Give advice ("man on", who to pass to next, etc.)

SSG (20 mins)

Intervals:

3 min work + 1 min rest x 6 reps = 24 min

Setup:

2 games going on at same time (each works on half of field)

2 teams of 4

30x30 grid with end zones

Activity:

Team in possession scores by dribbling/passing ball through endzone (if too easy, require them to stop ball in endzone).

Team out of possession MUST send one player to guard the endzone, thus making it 4v3 in midfield.

Coaching Points:

~ Possess vs. Penetrate --> identify cues (overloads, space)

~ Passing and moving to create proper spacing and passing angles

~ Interchanging positions (but considering the counter-attack)

Setup:

1-3-1-3 vs. 1-3-1-3

60x80 field

Activity:

Defenders must stay in zone.

Attackers can go anywhere.

Teams try to score in big goal.

Coaching Points:

~ #7/9/11 dropping into midfield to help in possession

~ Cues of when to penetrate: Numbers even or up
