This warm up is designed to help players develop their footwork and basic technique through a series of dynamic movements and technical challenges. Players are always moving and jogging to increase the heart rate and ensure they are ready for the session ahead.

Field Setup

Setup a 20yard circle with a series of SAQ Activities setout around the outside using cones, hurdles and poles. This will form the basis of the working area. Inside the circle, place six soccer balls and some poles in the center of the circle.

Jogging & Dynamic Stretching (10 mins)

Players begin the warm up by jogging around the outside of the area. As they jog we begin a series of dyamic stretching movements such as; Open the gate, close the gate, hand tap, kick out, heels up, high knees, side steps, carioca, mock strikes, kick and twist, lunge walks, etc.

Jogging & SAQ (10 mins)

Now players use the SAQ activities that have been setout on the outside. They perform the following activities;

1) Side Shuffles in and out of the cones

2) Both feet in and out of the hurdles

3) Side shuffles in and out of poles

4) Backwards and forwards in and out of the cones

5) One foot in and over the hurdles

6) Backwards shuffles in and out of the poles

NOTE: Use 1-3 as the initial movements and then progress to 4-6 to progress. Add different variations to movments through the SAQ Activities.

Technical Work (20 mins)

Players are divided into two groups (blue and red) The blues begin by feeding the ball into the reds who perform various ball control techniques and return the pass. Players must move through the central poles before receiving the ball. Control techniques can include;

1) Short pass

2) Thigh control and pass back

3) Volleys

4) Chest & Volley

5) Chest & Head

6) Headers (Attacking and Defensive)

NOTE: Rotate players on and off every 1min to avoid fatigue. Ensure the technical quality is there when players are performing the control and passing activities.
