A general High Intensity GK session for Elite high school Goalkeepers.

All exercises are done at a high pace and incorporate footwork and balls at their feet as well as power diving at work rate.

Dynamic Warmup/ Intro to Footwork (5 mins)

Working in a 15 yard area.

Dyanamic warm up from one end to the other.

Lots of movement and dynamic stetching.

Occasionally, move through agility cones at speed

After cones, quick change of pace/sprint.

Hand Warmup (5 mins)

One Gk Working, 3 servers.

Players 1 and 2 have balls in their hands

Idea is to receive a ball and distribute to open man.

In this case, 1 plays first ball. GK find player 3 without a ball.

Player two plays second ball, GK finds player 1 without a ball.

Combination repeats with GK always distributing to player without the ball.

switch after 1 minute set

Progressions:

Balls passed on ground to feet.

Volleys to chest

Quick Diving Triangle (10 mins)

Working Goalkeeper starts on cone 1.

GK moves around the triangle making three left dives.

Ater the third dive, GK moves back to first gate oposite side ( cone 4)

GK move back around triangle for three right dives.

Quick Drill, Get up fast, Clean safe hands.

Progressions:

Front smothers

Mid Height balls off ground

Volleys from hands

High dive tosses

Recovery Footwork. Should be done while tired.

GK moves though hurdles at pace

Receives a pass from partner.

Plays ball back

Quick 30 second sets, switch

Think Outside the Box (15 mins)

2 GK's working with Coach who is on a knee behind balls.

3rd GK doing footwork until the switch

Ball 1 will always go left

Ball 2 will always go to hands in center

Ball 3 will alwasy go right

If Ball 1 or 3 is played through the poles. GK takes touch to outside and passes back to Coach

If Ball 1 or 3 is rolled outside the poles. GK makes diving save.

Ball 2 can be played at any time for quick reaction save to hands.

Balls to the outside of poles can be rolled or tossed mid height.

Balls inside the poles need to be 2 touch back from GK.

GK works for 30-45 seconds then moves to agilty cones.

GK at agilty cones is now on deck, and on deck GK in now working.

England National Team (20 mins)

High Intensity.

GK starts on post with ball in hands.

GK gets out to 6-7 yard line and places ball at players feet.

Gk then quick gets across for diving save from Coach.

After big save, GK gets another ball from post pile and repeats.

Other player is there to transfer balls from 6 to coach.

Sets of 6-8 or about 45 hard seconds.

Balls should be at pace and tough to save.

Progression:

Volleys to upper corner.

Off ground mid height.

Distribution (5 mins)

If time allows,

Partner up and hit a few long balls.

After a few, move further back.

Goalkicks, punts and side volleys should all be attempted.

25 or less.
