Technical Repitions (10 mins)

Organization:

20x10 yd areas

4 players per group; 2 in each color set up as shown

2 balls per group

Instructions:

1. Player with the ball takes a trigger touch by moving the ball slightly to his/her right or left. Based on the direction of the touch, the player in middle checks away from ball then checks back at an angle to the opposite side.

3. Player with the ball plays the ball to receiving player as they reach the cone on the side

4. Player in the middle receives the ball and plays back to the same player.

5. First player now plays longer pass to the third player.

6. Third player moves along the opposite line to find the passing lane

7.  Third player receives with a positive first touch and dribbles at speed back to start line.

8. As the third player dribbles back he/she will look to execute the Roll Push and Slap Cut before reaching the line.

9. Count each full rotation as 1pt, keep score in a race to a certain amount or until the round is over

Rotation:

Player A > Player B > Player C > Player A

Coaching Points:

1. Timing of run and pass to receive the ball in the middle of the area near the sideline

2. Sideways body position to receive

3. Check back shoulder to observe space before receiving

4. Receive with the back foot, play pass back with inside of same foot

5. Or play 1-touch with inside of back foot

6. Look to play long pass 1-touch, if there is a player on the third line. If not, look to finish in the goal.

7. Movement of 3rd player to find the passing lane.

Technical Repititions (Semi-Opposed) (15 mins)

Organization:

20x10 yd areas

4 players set up as shown

Instructions:

1. Same set up as previous activity with the addition of a passive defender.

2. Defender will stay tight to the attacker as the attacker receives the ball.

3. Receiving player takes first touch to protect the ball then plays back to supporting teammate.

4. Supporting player looks for penetrating pass to third player.

5. After a few rotations of successfully executing the double pass, progress the activity so that the defender may move freely and block the third player.

6. If the defender blocks the third line, Player A can look to beat him/her by passing to Player B who can receive the ball and then quickly play a pass to Player D. (Loose pressure)

7. If the defender blocked Player D and was then able to apply pressure to Player C, after Player A passes, Player C should look to combine with Player A and beat the defender using the double pass. (Closing Late)

Rotation:

Player A > Player B (defender) > Player C (receiver) > Player D > Player A

Coaching Points:

1. Check away from the ball to create space to receive the ball

2. Sideways body position ready to receive

3. Check shoulder to observe position of the defender

4. Keep body in between the defender and the ball as you receive

5. Take touch using front foot to protect the ball if defender gets tight

6. Ability to play back with 1 or 2 touches

7. Movement of middle player to open up again after layoff

Progressions:

1. Defender is now allowed to try to win the ball after the attacker's first touch, tries to deny penetrating pass

2. Play 2v1 on the way back after target receives the ball. In this scenario Player D and Player C will not have a target on the third line, instead they will look to penetrate the space left behind the defender by getting the defender to commit (with the Roll Push / Slap Cut) or breaking the line with a pass to Player C. This will allow players to apply the skills developed in the previous sessions and use them as a decoy pass to the supporting player. *

1v1 Conditioned Game (15 mins)

Organization:

20x10 yd areas, with small goals on endline

4 players set up as shown

Extra balls behind each endline

Instructions:

1. 1v1 in central area, 1 small goal on far end.

2. Target player with the ball plays into his teammate in the central area, defender must allow attacking player to have the first touch on the ball, but attempts to win the ball and score in the counter goal after the 1st touch.

3. Receiving player works with supporting player to score in small goal, looking to play double pass to open up passing lane for supporting player to score. Or using one of the skills developed (Roll Push / Slap Cut) in the previous sessions as a decoy pass to penetrate the space behind themselves.

4. Supporting player may enter the field of play but must stay on defensive half of the field.

5. Alternate the service from each team for two minutes. Rotate pairs after set amount of time (2 or 3 minutes)

6.  3pts for turning and scoring at opposite target, or combining with the supporting player.  Defender scores 1pt for stealing the ball and playing back into target. 0pts if the ball is played out of bounds.

Coaching Points:

1. Create space to receive with movement away from the ball before checking back into space

2. Check at an angle to create the space to receive on the back foot

3. Sideways body position ready to receive

4. Check shoulder to observe position of the defender

5. Choose which foot to receive with based on the position of the defender

6. Use of double pass to create passing lane for supporting player to score

7. Open up new passing lane after layoff in case defender blocks of lane to goal

Progressions:

1. Defender does not need to allow attacker to have the first touch on the ball, can attempt to intercept the pass and score on counter goal
