Technical Warm-Up. (10 mins)

Technical Warm-up:

Set-up: 10 x 10 Grid. 4-5 players in each square. If U9&U10 need more space can make it as big as you need it.

1. Dribbling: Ball-mastery + 1v1 Moves. (5 min)

i. bells, toe-taps, sole across, pull-push, inside outside cut, cruyffs, sole behind, etc.

ii. cut unders, scissors, overs, the hop, drag + scissors

iii. On coaches command, players have to accelerate with their ball for 10 yards.

iv. One ball in grid and have to pass and move quickly inside grid, cannot go in a circle or in straight lines.

2. Passing & Receiving: (5-7 min)

- have 2 players at one cone with a ball and the rest at each cone. Pass and follow.

Progression:

i. Receive right and play right. (always receive ball across body and make sure to peel off the cone) What are the cues to peel off? Same thing with left foot.

***U9 & U10: Simply stick to this first phase. They need to master this directional touch. Foundation of passing and receiving.

iii. [U11's&U12's] player receiving checks to and lays it back one touch to passer, then receiver backs up to receive ball across body and continue the direction.

iv. [U11's & U12's] receive pass first touch and lay it off, player passes it diagonally.

Crossing and Finishing (15 mins)

Crossing and Finishing:

1) First player in middle line dribbles out and shoots on goal.

2) Second player in middle line completes wall-pass with first player and then shoots.

3) Player on right, dribbles down line and cross ball to the two players who just shot.

4) Player on left dribbles down line and crosses ball.

Progression of crosses: Start off with all crosses on the ground ot either near post or 45 degree ball. Then crosses can be lifted to far post.

Rotation: Once balls are retrieved, the two outside players come to the middle and the two inside players go outside.

Coaching Points: All of this has to be done at a high intensity. Middle players, need to recycle their runs and be purposeful with their runs. One should be arriving near when ball gets there and one should be going far or pk spot. Can you be deceptive with your runs? Are arriving on time or too early? Are crossers accelerating at full speed?

*Competition: Need to score 10 goals in 2 minutes.

Crossing and Finishing with Two Strikers. (5 mins)

Crossing and Finishing Phase III

1) CM plays second striker

2) Second striker plays the 1st striker who checked to originally and then turns to receive ball from second striker

3) 1st striker plays ball wide to outside mid.

4) Outside mid crosses the ball.

Progression: If play results in a goal or shot on target, coach can play ball into striker who then finishes or combines with other forward.

Coaching Points:

Are we telegraphing? Cues for 1 and 2 touches? Can everything be crisp.

Crossing and Finishing (10 mins)

Crossing & Finishing. Groups of 4. *For U9 & U10, groups of 3, only work one side.

1) Striker drops into pocket to show for the ball

2) CM passes it to striker who lays it off for a wall pass back to CM

3) CM passes it wide to winger (before passing it out wide, add a deceptive fake to go one way and pass the other)

4) Striker and opposite winger make runs into box for near and far post. CM supports play at the top of 18 for cut back ball.

5) Winger crosses the ball.

As the ball goes wide, the next striker shows for the ball to go in the opposite direction

Coaching Points:

Can we add a bit of deception? Speed of play? When should you play one touch or two touch? What are the cues to make runs or check to ball?
