Ball Mastery (10 mins)

Organization:

-All players

-Area: 20x20

-See diagram for equipment and set-up

Dribbling and Ball Mastery activity to review a variety of techniques and concepts. Players use all the space to dribbling in and around the space.

Variations/Progressions:

-decrease the space - make the area smaller

-add chalenges - dribbline between 2 players for a point, perform a turn at the wall, etc

-add defenders/taggers

Key Points:

-Close control

-Lots of touches

-Using all parts of the foot

-Head up to scan the space

Skill Practice (15 mins)

Organization:

-8-10 players

-15x15 area

-see diagram for equipment and set up

Players start at the 4 corners of the grid and have to dribble around the outside. When they reach the cone half way between the corners they must perform the Pull Push move. When the players reach their starting position, they must use their ball to knock the ball off the middle cone to win the game.

Progressions/Variations:

-Go in opposite direction

-Change the Stop/Start move

Coaching Points:

-Close control when dribbling

-Good execution of moves

-Accuracy on pass at ball on middle cone

Coerver Moves (15 mins)

Organization:

-8-10 players

-Area: approx.10x10

-5 Cones, supply of balls

The group is split into 2 teams. Players start by moving into the middle cone to face an opponent. On coaches' signal ("red"/"yellow"), players must react and now dribble the ball and knock off the ball balanced on that coloured cone with a pass.

Variations/Progressions:

-Change ball mastery in the centre - toe-taps, ball-boxing, etc

-Players must move to the opposite of the coaches' signal.

Key Points:

-Good agility, balance, coordination and speed with movements

-Close ball control and dribbling

-Accurate passing

-Use fakes/feints to confuse opponent

Chaos Game (20 mins)

Organisation:

-8-10 Players

-Full quarter field

-See diagram for set-up and equipment

-Divide group into 4 teams (2-3 per team depending on numbers). Play 2 games going across from each other. Change the opposition every 5 minutes.

Coaching Points:

-Awareness, scan around to see where the pass needs to go, where the pockets of space are

-Body position to receive – be on the half turn

-Positive control, into an area where the pass can be played

-Decision-making
