When to press when to drop (10 mins)

SMALL SIDED GAME

To enable me to coach the Blues on a defending topic I will need the Reds to attack frequently. Therefore, if Blues win possession I want them to get a shot at goal within three passes. The Reds GK will then start play.

When do we press / defend early? :

Player receives the ball facing their own goal

Poor pass

Sideways pass

Poor first touch

Lofted pass (allowing press whilst ball is in transit)

Can we get pressure on the ball?

Yes 1) Press in numbers 2) Press ball 3) Press space 4) Job and a half 5) Set traps

No 1) Drop 2) Get compact 3) Get organised 4) Screen 5) Wait for a trigger to press
