Juggling Warm-Up (10 mins)

Organization:

30x40 yard grid, each Player with a ball.

Instructions:

- Players work in pairs. Set number of touches allowed. If player misplays the ball, a point is given to the other player. Play for a fixed time, winners move up to play a new player.

- Soccer Tennis.

Coaching Points:

- Players try to improve their touches (suppleness, control and foot-eye coordination) by juggling with different surfaces of their feet & body.

Main Theme (20 mins)

Organization:

3 10x15 yard channels

Players set up as shown

Balls

Instructions:

- Play starts when attacking player (B) in the middle checks away from the defending player (C), then to the ball to receive the ball played by end player (A).

- Player (D) will check to the opposite side of Player (B) to provide an angle of support.

- Attacking player (B) must choose the appropriate surface of the foot to receive and turn to link play with end player (D) on the endline.

- Player (D) will dribble down to opposite end after receiving the pass from player (B).

- All players rotate up, and repeat sequence.

Coaching Points:

- Check away first to create space.

- Check at an angle and at speed to create separation.

- Locate ball while traveling.

- Angle of approach.

- Check shoulder to see which side defender is showing.

- Choose correct surface of foot to execute turn.

- Head up to locate end player and determine next action.

Progressions:

- Add goal where end-player (D) is to go 1v1 to goal. Player D joins line A (only 3 player rotation).

Receiving:

- Outside of the foot

- Flick "Around the corner"

1v1 Activity (20 mins)

Organization:

20x30,

- 6 Players on each side (Attackers & Defenders)

- Each team has a player on each endline at either side of the goal as shown.

Instructions:

- First two players in line on the sideline jog out onto the field.

- Coach yells which team is on offence (shown as blue).

- Blue player can receive a pass from either endline player; whichever end line player plays the pass, attacker must score on the goal at the opposite end.

- 1v1 game to goal.

Coaching Points:

- Body in line with the ball as it travels.

- Decison of which part of foot to take the ball into space with.

- Body shape to receive the ball.

- Space available so Attacker can go at speed.

- Recognition of Defender's posistion.

Progression

- Endline player passing the ball can join in the play creating 2v1.

- Endline player passing the ball can join in the play as well as opponent that is on the same endline creating a 2v2.

Conditioned Game (20 mins)

Organization:

20x30 area

2 Equal teams

Instructions:

- As eye contact is made, Attacker (A1) checks to receive the pass.

- As soon as A1 checks to the ball, Defender (D1) can come out to immediately defend.

- Once Attacker (A2) plays pass, they come out to join the play.

- As soon as A1 takes their first touch to receive Defender (D2) comes out to make it a 2v2 game.

- Attackers try to score on the two goals on the A1 & D1 side of the field, Defenders try to score on the A2 & D2 side of the field.

- Attackers will switch from A1 to A2 lines, Defenders will switch from D1 to D2 lines.

- Play for certain length of time, switch as a group from Attacker to Denfender after the time period.

- Restrictions: To start...do not allow A1 to play ball back to A2; A1 must receive with proper technique.

Coaching Points:

- Head Up-View Area

- Get in line with the ball

- Select controlling surface

- Determine direction and space to attack

- Disguise to deceive defender

- Combination play to get around defenders

Instructions:

Regular match

Coaching Points:

- Quality of shot.

- Type of shot (Power, curled, chipped).

- Awarness of GK's position.

- Quality of cross.

- Timing of runs to centre.

- Attack ball and be alive for rebounds.
