Warm Up (15 mins)

On Arrival:

Juggling - One touch, one bounce.

Organization:

1 Player per ball

Instructions:

Players move around area pretending other players are defenders and penetrating gaps in the opposition defence.

on coaches command, player leave ball and go around area doing dynamic stretches.

on go, they go to a ball and continue dribbling

Coaching Points:

Use different surfaces of foot for dribbling

Inside foot

Outside foot

Developmental Repititions (15 mins)

Organization:

diamond cones and one in the middle

8 yards between cones

players start at A

four/five per group

pass and follow

Instructions:

Player A passes to Player B who opens up and finds Player C. C dribbles the ball back, beating the cone with a sole roll on the way. Process repeats.

Coaching Points:

- Quality of pass

- Check away from cone

- Body position open

- Quality of first touch (backfoot)

- Communication (feet, turn)

- Head up before making next pass

- Speed of play

Progressions:

- Use both sides and work both feet.

Semi-Opposed (10 mins)

Organization:

As before

Instructions:

Set up as before, adding a passive defender behind the receiving player. Player B this time receives the ball on their front foot and takes a touch inside to open up the passing lane to C, C may now shoot in goal after dribbling.

Coaching Points:

- Feel/see defender (Check your shoulder)

- Protect ball with body

- Weight/direction of touch

- Head up before making pass

Fully Opposed (20 mins)

Organization:

two small goals, two sets of gates, 15x12 space.

two teams

Instructions:

First player in each line begins to jog towards coach. On coaches command (White or Blue) one player becomes the receiver and one becomes the defender. Receiver must score in goal behind them (A)or dribble through gates on outside. If defender wins ball the counter to opposite goal (B).

Coaching Points:

- Check to an angle

- first touch direction/distance

- Open body to field

- Communication (feet)

- Check shoulder

- Decision; Open up or protect ball

- Have ball played through behind defender if they over commit.

Progressions:

-Take away gates option

Small Sided Game (30 mins)

Organization:

3v3 game - 3 teams - Winners stay on, 20x15 space

Coaching Points:

- Make field big as a team when in possession.

- Big touch into space

- Distance and direction of first touch based on your surroundings.

- Create Space for first touch
