Getting the ball wide

Team Learning Objectives

- Shifting the ball in central areas to create opportunities to play wide

Session Organisation

- As shown

- 3v3 in central shaded zone

How to Play

- Play begins from the attacking team playing from the #2 or #3 into any of the three midfielders

- The three midfielders move the ball to create an opportunity to release the #7 or #11 through the gate out wide

- Once the gate has been broken the opposite winger can join the attack as does the #10 and #8, as well as either the #2 or #3 looking to support in partnership of the player in advance

- The defensive team may drop all but one player back - one to press the wide man as a recovering full back and the others in central areas

- Defensive team look to win the ball and play into their target player in the shaded zone before getting a strike on goal

- If defensive team steal the ball while the midfielders are looking to create the opportunity to play wide they may get a quick strike on goal to score a point

Progressions

- The ball can be played through/beyond the gate for the #7 or #11 to run onto

- The #7 and #11 may come into the shaded area to create a numerical advantage and allow the #2 or #3 to provide the width
