4 v 2 + 2N

Organization:

(4x) 15 x 15 yd boxes

Full area: 30 x 30 yd grid

Two boxes for yellow and blue team

Two neutrals each in their own area

1 Ball; Extras on the side with the coach

Instructions:

1. Similar to Rondo transfer. Two teams are looking to maintain/regain possession of the ball. (Refer to diagram) If blue is dispossessed and yellow gains control of the ball, yellow must quickly look to play to one of the two neutrals in a different box.

2. If yellow is able to play the ball to one of the neutrals, the whole team must shift over to that area and connect 7 passes to earn a point.

3. Once the neutral player plays the ball into the attacking team, he/she must find a new and open area to occupy.

4. The defending team is only allowed to send two defenders over to regain possession of the ball.

Coaching Points:

1. Expand when we regain possession by using the width.

2. Compress when under attack.

3. Pressure - Cover - Balance.

4. Use of small combinations to draw defenders in a quickly switch the point of attack with a long ball.

5. Why do we want to create width?

Progressions:

(P1) - Two touch limit

(P2) - Add four goals, one on each side. If players combine 7 passes they may go to goal.

Organization:

30 x 30

4 v 5 in center area

3 Neutrals around the outside

1 Ball; Etxras on the side (Play always starts with coach)

Progression - add two goals. Refer to diagram

Instructions:

1. Blue (5 players) are looking to combine 5 passes before going to goal. Must combine with at least one neutral as well.

2. Yellow (4 players) must quickly pressure the ball. If they regain possession players must look to quickly combine 3 passes before going to goal. Yellow does not have to use the neutrals however it is encouraged. Many be added as a restriction if yellow does not quickly expand.

3. Blue (5 players) are restricted to a maximum of 2 touches.

4. Yellow (4 players) are allowed to use an unlimited number of touches but must pass 3 times.

Coaching Points:

1. Expand when we regain possession by using the width.

2. Compress when under attack.

3. Pressure - Cover - Balance.

4. Use of small combinations to draw defenders in a quickly switch the point of attack with a long ball.

4 v 3 with Recovering Midfield

Organization:

Full field (with expanded widths)

Divided into thirds, as shown

Total: 7v7

Outside Midfielders playing in the flanks

1 Ball (Restarts with Coach)

Instructions:

1. 2v3 in the Attacking third

2. Defenders must regain possession and play to the outside midfielders in the middle third.

3. On transition, midfielders may attack in the final third down the flank. IF they combine with the forward or center-mid in the box through a give and go they may enter the box as well.

4. If the midfielders defense is under pressure and is looking to regain possession, they must come back to support/help mark another player to create balance.

5. If a team shoots and misses, they player who shot the ball must go retrieve it. (Quick transition for the other team).

Coaching Points:

1. Expand when we regain possession by using the width.

2. Compress when under attack.

3. Midfielders awareness to get back and help the defense.

4. Defenders (+ Outside Mids) positioning on the field. Pressure - Balance - Cover.

5. Ability to combine on attack to isolate and get behind a defender.

6. Why do we want to create width?

Layering Restrictions:

1. Midfield in the attacking and defensive third can only move within the outside channels = reinforce creating width to get out of defensive third, and to stretch the opposing team's defense out in the attacking third.

2. Midfield can enter the attacking third IF they combine with the forwards on a give and go or overlapping run = encourage players to draw opposing defenders out wide to combine around and minimize their numbers infront of the goal.

3. On attack, one defender can leave his/her third and enter the middle third in order to support the play (preferably defender on the side of the attacking play) = providing a supporting option to play the ball back to a switch point of attack.

4. Defenders, if they regain the ball must pass it left to right or right to left before moving the ball forward and out of the defensive third. Reminder - Midfield can move anywhere in the middle third. = Allows time for Midfield to compress and shift with the ball, denying the opportunity for the other team to get out and find their target player. Pressure - Cover - Balance.

5. On defense, one forward may leave his or her third and enter the middle third to check back for the ball = encouraging our forwards to provide themselves as a quick option for our defense if they regain possession. CP: Move where the ball travels. Left to right / Right to left
