Warm Up / SAQ

Organization: Set up one large grid 20x20 in size with a half line dividing the field. Select four players from each team to go into one side of the grid each with a ball at their feet. There remaining players will be on both sides of the grid going through SAQ until the coach calls out for a change.

Activity:

Players on the inside will have a ball at their feet dribbling freely in their own half. When the coach yells "play" the players will quickly dribble to the other side of the grid through the other team who will be going the opposite way and stop the ball on the line. As soon as the ball is stopped the players will all begin to move freely once again inside the grid.

Progression: Take away balls from one team now making 4 players dribble at the defenders trying to stop the ball on the opposite sideline from where they began. Have the two teams rotate making sure you defend once then attack once.

Coaching Points:

1. Can we perform every action with high energy and tempo.

2. Because the space is tight the ball should be close to your foot.

3. Make sure your head is always up.

4. Be balanced and coordinated through all of SAQ.

Organization: Make 6 small grids being sure we are sticking with the theme of playing in tight spaces. The game is 1v1 line soccer with each team traveling the same direction no matter what small space they are in.

Activity:

Players will try to dribble from thier endline to the oppostie endline stopping the ball on the line which will give their team a point. Each match up will take place for 1 minute. Whichever team has the most points (counting up all the teams scores will earn one goal towards the final score). There is no restriction on how many one indivdual player can score.

Coaching Points:

1. Keep the ball close to your foot.

2. Be creative when you can and smart also at times protecting the ball (shielding).

3. Try to get the defender off balnce making it easier for you to successfully get across to the other side.

Organization: 1v1 defending to a small goal at one end. Each team will have half their team on offense while the other half is playing defense. Teams will switch every 5 minutes making sure players get practice at both defending and attacking.

Activity:

Each attacking player will have one ball at their feet which will start the drill. As soon as the attacker touches the ball the defending players are now allowed to enter the grid and prevent the attacking team from scoring. If the attacking player scores that counts as one point for his team. If the defending player wins the ball and dribble successfully to attackers endline the defending team will gain a point. Whoever has the most points combined at the end of every 5 minutes wins a point overall.

Coaching Points:

1. Attack the defenders at speed but also under control.

2. Take small touches in tight spaces but larger touches in areas of the grid where you have room.

3. Keep your head up always knowing where the defender is and where the goal is.

4. Take/make accurate passes and shots when finishing on target (while attacking)

Organization: Three small fields next to eachother no bigger than 15x12. Each field will have two goals one on each end. Players are facing off 1v1 against a player from the other team.

Activity:

1v1 small sided game to goal with the main purpose being to beat the defender and score your goal. When a goal is scored the team who got scored on will have a player ready with a ball at their feet ready to go 1v1 against the player who just scored. (Incorperating a small transition from offense to defense in the drill now). If you get scored on you will get behind your goal and be ready to attack once your turn is up. Make sure you are rotating the lone allowing every player to match up against new defenders and attackers.

Coaching Points:

1. Quickly attack the defenders trying to catch them off balance.

2. When the defender is giving you time and space your touch can be bigger.

3. When the defender is very close make sure you keep the ball tight on your foot to avoid it being poked away.

Tactical (Game)

Organization: Full field game making sure you set the teams up in a formation. Should have a smaller field making the game more difficult for the players. If you have the numbers I would use GK's.

Activity:

Game with an emphisis on 1v1 attacking in tight spaces.

Coaching Points:

1. Same as from other activities but not involving more players who are involved.
