Working turns around a box (30 mins)

Working Turns around a box

•A 6 x 6 grid is set up and every player has a ball on a cone.

•The players must work outside the cones along the line with the idea that inside the cones are the defenders. This will force the players to use the far foot from the inside of the grid to simulate protecting the ball.

•Once the player gets to a cone they work a turn. They continue this action back and forth.

•First they turn by using the outside of their foot to turn away from the cone “outside hook”, once successful move the group on to the “inside hook” this time using the inside leg to spin to the outside and take the ball away with the inside of the foot. Next is the “stop turn” where they step on the ball and turn around followed by the “step over” which involves using the outside leg to step over and around the ball and then spinning the inside leg back where the other leg came from to finish the turn.

•If you can get through all of the turns quick enough then have them continue to work the turns but this time on your command of which one to attempt.

Details

Send eyes to the ball when touching the ball, check your outside shoulder, disguise with the turn, protect with not only the outside foot being used but with your inside forearm as well, big touch out of the turn, get the head up to see the pitch.

One on one with 2 goals (20 mins)

One on one with 2 goals

•A 12 x 12 grid is made with players on opposite ends of the grid behind the cones. The 2 edges with no players have 2 cones at it to make a small goal to run through.

•One line of players will have the ball while the other side is waiting for the pass. The first player makes a pass and then attacks the player. The receiving player controls and attempts to beat the defender into one of the 2 goals at either side of him/her.

•Once the 1 vs 1 is complete, players switch sides.

•Coaching points include communicating when making the pass, assuring you have a good first touch when receiving and performing one of the individual moves that have been worked on. Make sure the players know that once they start to go to one of the nets, they can always work a turn and come back to the other net to keep the defender on their toes.

Power and Finesse (10 mins)

Power and Finesse

Divide the team into 2. Coach passes the balls to the players. First shot is taken from outside the 18 (power with laces) then the shooter moves forward and takes a shot from about the penalty spot (finess, placement into a corner). The shooter scores no goals and is eliminated. The shooter scores 1 of 2 then they stay in the game and go behind the line with his teammates. If the shooter scores both then they can either save a fellow teammate who is eliminated already or challenge the other team to score both. If a challeneg is the choice and the opponent does not score both shots, they are eliminated. First team to lose all of their players loses.
