Organisation & Start Point

Organisation: 6 attackers in a 4-3-3 formation attack a defending back 6. Ball starts with server who distributes the ball to midfield or wide players. Midfield players are looking receive the ball from forward players in order to continue the attacking phase of play and score goals. If the defending team wins the ball, they are looking to play into the server/neutral player, get it back and enter one of the two wide goal areas by dribbling in. From here, apply the rules of the game with occasional restarts from the service area.

Key Factors:

- Shape and ball movement to stretch

- Support - Angles, distance and timing in relation to ball and opponent

- CM low option (depth)

- Does CM depth create space in pocket for AM (high option)?

- Does FB overload create pockets of space for CM and AM?

- Manage opponent CM's to apply pressure and win the ball to create space in midfield. Encourage CB's to allow zero turns and force striker to bump the ball.

- Positioning of AM to receive ball from wide of central forward in order to play in behind

Scenario

Scenario #1: Central Midfielder plays wide to winger and provides supporting option with appropriate angle, distance and timing. Far side Central Midfielder drop to provide appropriate angle as ball travels, if it gets played back to switch out. FB overlaps to create space for CM.

Options #2 in this Scenario: Central Midfielder shows at appropriate angle, striker sits in between FB and CB on CB shoulder, and AM pops in space created by CM depth. Look to play AM, combine and get in behind. If FB or CB, ignore attacking FB, play him in and keep them honest.

Scenario

Scenario: Once width and good shape is established. Look to play centrally. Can we split the midfield 2 and directly into striker, who is in front and off the shoulder of CB? AM provides short 5-7 yard angle of support to combine and get striker in behind. Remind players to not provide angles of support at 9-3 or 12-6.
