Rondo Warm Up

Organization: Small Square Area. 4/5 players 1/2 defenders. 2 games of same size going on at the same time. Can play 2 games at once or increase players in 1 game depending upon numbers.

Instructions: Players are to constantly pass and move to keep the ball away from the defender. Game is directional with two target men on either end. Idea is to work the ball end to end, not just maintain possession. When defenders win the ball they try to maintain possession of it for as long as possible.

Coaching Points:

Penetrating pass is first option, with maintaining possession as the plan B.

1) Players must look for intelligent runs into space.

2) Players must have head up when they receive the ball and anticipate where their pass should go.

3) Constant movement, circulation and rotation.

4) Great communication and signalling is required.

5) Always offer support to the ball carrier.

6) 1-2 passes are a must, to get in behind defender.

7) Accurate passing is vital.

8) Always checking over shoulder, every second or so.

9) Should build to a lightning fast tempo.

10) All of the above coaching points are subtle extras if the group progression permists, the real coaching points are passing related and as follows;

Progressions:

1) Rectangular Rondo. 6v3/7v8 etc. Defenders are in the middle and can go anywhere but have to try to prevent the ball being played end to end.

2) Break out Rondo (after set amount of passes, players look to break out in to a second grid.

3) Rondo where excercises are introduce, ie, push up after every pass, etc.

Dynamic Warm Up

2 Following Lines, 5-6 mins of;

1) Straight Jogging

2) High Knees

3) Butt Flicks

4) Karaokes

5) Outside to inside knee lifts

6) Inside to outside knee lifts

Receiving Main Activity.

Organization: As many coned grids as required. As many players in each as required. 1 ball per group.

Instructions: Players are to pass the ball clockwise then anti clockwise around the cones. Receiving with their back foot.

Coaching Points:

1) Receive the ball on the back foot and use the touch to get forward, break past the defending line and pass forward.

2) Make sure the passes are accurate and to the back foot.

3) Body position should be open and side on to facilitate a good reception of the ball.

4) The touch needs to be spot on.

5) Head up to see pass.

6) Receivers must communicate and offer themselves correctly as receiving options.

7) Quicker passes may come with a back foot/front foot combo.

8) Use ball momentum to help receive and turn (fast passes are eventually required)

Progressions:

Combo pass.

Receiving Main Activity (30 mins)

Organization: 2 games can be played at the same time. There are 6 players in each game (4 receivers and two defenders) Small cones are used to mark out 4 'gates' in each game. Each receiver stands in one of these gates.

Instructions: The idea is to move the ball from North to South, which mimics getting the ball forward. The ball can be played along the side or through the middle. The defenders can block tackle or intercept but limit their movement to side to side initially like fusball players. Defenders are passive until game picks up.

HOW WHEN WHERE WHY

Coaching Points:

1) Receive the ball on the back foot and use the touch to get forward, break past the defending line, get forward momentum going and pass forward.

2) Make sure the passes are accurate and to the back foot.

3) Body position should be open and side on to facilitate a good reception of the ball.

4) The touch needs to be spot on.

5) Head on a swivel to see passer and intended passing option.

6) Receivers must communicate and offer themselves correctly as receiving options. Depending upon where the defenders are, will determine how high or low the receiver is, what type of pass can be playeed, and the receivers next action, forward or backwards. Maybe most important point.

7) Quicker passes may come with a back foot/front foot combo.

Progressions: More active defenders.

Receiving Main Activity. (30 mins)

Organization: 2 goals. Coned off receiving square in the middle. 2 gates either side of square. More balls than players.

Instructions: Players line up inbetween the goals, play the ball out to the receiving player who turns and plays a ball to one of the players on the gate. The player on the gate breaks through the gate and attacks on goal. Players follow their pass/the ball and fill the empty spaces as they go.

HOW WHEN WHERE WHY

Coaching Points:

1) Receive the ball with the back foot (all receivers)

2) Cushion it and turn with the momentum of the ball.

3) Allow the turn to take you away from the 'defender' and out of the back of the box.

4) Receiving the ball should set you up for your next pass.

5) Good accurate pass, nice weight.

6) Aggressively break the gate on first touch, beating the defender, using the back foot.

7) Always have head up.

8) Communication.

9) Head on a swivel, always checking for passing oppertunities and defenders.

Progressions:

1) Passive defenders

2) Active defenders
