TRAINING OBJECTIVE(S):

WHO: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8

WHERE: Defensive and middle thirds of the field.

WHEN: When the keeper regains possession, restarts with the keeper, or when the team regains possession in defensive third.

WHAT: Proper weight and technique of pass, receiving on the back foot, communication, spacing in order to optimize width and depth.

WHY: In order to maintain possession and draw team further up the field as we possess to penetrate. In order to be comfortable possessing under pressure.

Warm-Up (10 mins)

Organization:

-25x20 grid

Instructions:

- Players get into groups of 3 and do a pass and move warmup. Progress by incorporating various passing combinations.

Coaching Points:

-Penetration with the dribble,

-Positive first touch in order to play forward and penetrate.

-Movement off the ball to offer support.

-Weight, timing of pass.

-Receiving side on/on back foot in order to play forward.

Small Sided Activity (20 mins)

Organization:

-25x20 grid

Instructions:

-Three team possesion. 3v1 posession in one grid as team in possession is attempting to penetrate by passing to the team resting in the other grid. Two defenders wait along the middle line as one defender enters the grid with the ball.

-Team that loses possession now becomes the defending three.

Coaching Points:

-Can first attacker penetrate space with dribble or pass.

-Players moving to support and offer width/depth.

-Mobility to create space.

-Weight/timing pass.

-Proper receiving.

Expanded Small Sided Activity (20 mins)

Organization:

-Half field setup, full width. Three counter goals for red team to dribble into.

Instructions:

- White team can score by shooting on large goal. One red mid can drop into defensive half to create additional support. Red DF can move into middle AFTER passing into middle third.

Coaching Points:

-6 dropping into gap created by wide CB's to help create an advantage against the 9.

-Offering direct option for penetration to turn and connect with 8 or 3/2.

-Good weight of pass and receiving on back foot necessary.

-Using GK in possession

Game (25 mins)

Organization:

-2 large goals. Normal width, 60 yards length.

Instructions:

-7v7 game, FIFA rules, players organized as shown.

Coaching Points:

-Patients in possession, using GK for man advantage and good communication to keep team organized.

-Defenders spreading out when restarting to have options and spread out opponents.

-Utilizing width and depth.

-Communication

-Proper technique as above.
