Setup for Offensive Corner

This is how we are going to setup for every offensive corner. For the sake of the understanding the runs you need to know the different spots you could go on the field depending on where you get subbed in.

Positional Responsibilities:

Corner Kick Taker - Most likely one of our CB's. When you are about to kick the ball you need to raise your hand and that will commence the runs. Aim for the penalty spot with your kick.

CF - You need to be in front of the keeper at all times. Make a nuisance of yourself if necessary

AM's - One AM will get in the 'attacking line' and the other AM (the shorter one) will play in front of the opposing team striker near and anything that gets cleared you cross back into the box.

WB's - will stay back and cover their strikers.

All other positions will get into a single file 'attacking line'. Each time there is a corner get in the line at the top of the 18yd box and decide who is making which run. Mix it up each time so the opponent doesn't know who is going where. Do not go untill the corner kicker raises their hand.

The above diagram illustrates the area and runs that need to be covered.

Garbage collector - (WF in picture) - Curling run to the far side of the opposite corner to cover any balls that make it through everyone

Near Post - (AM in picture) - curling run and you need to get in front of the defender covering the near post. If the ball comes to you, try to flick it on or pass it to the top of the 18.

Penalty spot - (CB in picture) - curling run to be at the penalty spot when the ball is kicked. Be patient, you don't want to be there too early.

Back Post (DM in picture) - curling run time to be at the back post when the ball is kicked, don't get too close to the net.

Top of the box - (WF in picture) - You fake a run but we want someone at the top of the box to shoot anything that is cleared out by their team.

Offensive Short Corner

Short Corner Option

A) We setup the same way as we do all corners but this time the WF makes the run to provide a short option to the corner kick taker. This should create a 2 v1 situation. The goal will be to get a better angle or possible shooting opportunity for the corner kick taker.

B) This option can also be used if we already have 2 players in the corner and we are setup for the corner and the opposing team is still scrambling to get into place. In this case it doesn't always have to be the CB who takes the corner, just whatever 2 players are closest to the corner.

Both situations we need to time are runs so that we are not in our positions before the ball is even played.

Setup for Defensive Corner

Defensive corner setup

Everyone needs to know every position's area of responsibility. You never know which position you will be playing so you need to be sharp and ready. We play a zone defending so focus on getting into the right spot and clear anything that comes in your zone.

K - you more than anyone needs to know everyone's position. BE LOUD, TAKE CHARGE and tell people where to go if they don't know. Don't let any player on their team in front of you and only come off your line to get the corner if you are %100 sure you are going to win it. Once the ball is cleared you need to YELL ( "Push out!" or "Get out!") at everyone to get out of the box.

AM's - You will be on the INSIDE of the posts. Not leaning up against it or in front of it but making yourself as big as possible. Do not leave your post untill you are sure the ball is clear (The keeper should be the one that tells you)

WF (on the side where the ball is being kicked). You need to be in front of any player they put on the near post and you have to be ready to cover to go and cover and short corner kick they try to take.

The rest will be in 2 lines. 1 line will be on the 6yd box and the other line will be along the penalty spot line.

CF - will stay high and on the same side that the kick is being taken on. If the ball comes to you, your number 1 job is to hold onto the ball and wait for your team mates to come. DO NOT loose possesion.
