Warm up (10 mins)

Warm Up: Set up

Passing square 25 x 25yds, 4 mannequins positioned in the middle of the square each with a player behind them and all other players are positioned at the 4 corners of the square.

Passing rotation: Player 1 passes to player 2, player 2 lays the ball off for player 3 who then passes the ball to player 4 who then switches the play to player 5 and the activity is repeated on the other side.

Coaching points: weight of pass, player 3 moving towards the pass from player 1 but leavng the ball for player 2, 1 touch lay off if possible, accuracy of the pass and quick movement in the central area.

Progression: player 3 moves in behind player 2 to either a pass from player 2 or player 2 uses the movement as a decoy and turns away himself from the mannequin and passes the ball to player 4.

Component 1 (10 mins)

Striker Movement:

Striker movement: 1. cross face run from 1st striker 2. Pass into second striker who passes the ball inside to the first striker who had came short to receive a pass from player 2. 3. Cross face run from striker 1 and striker 2 takes the ball into the space that has been vacated by player 1.

1. Player 1 passes to player 2, player 2 then takes a touch out his feet and passes to the player 4, player 3 then makes a cross face run to receive a lay off from player 4. Coaching points: weight and angle of pass, movement short to receive the ball from the first striker. Timing of runs, create space with quick movement . Communication is the key to the exercise working effectively.

2. Same set up as exercise 1: First striker comes short to receive the ball, leaves the ball to run through to second striker, first striker then makes a cross face run but second striker dribbles the ball into the space vacated by first striker and has a shot on goal.

Same set up as exercise 1: First Striker comes short to receive the ball and lets the ball go through to second striker who then plays a 1-2 with first striker and then gets a finish at goal.

Component 2 (10 mins)

Component 2:

3 zone Game related practice: 2v2 in midfield zone, and 3v2 in attacking and defending Zone. 1 blue/redplayers can support the strikers/midfield players when they are going forward.

Coaching points: good delivery from wide and central areas into the strikers feet, quick movement to get on the ball, communication, timing and angle of runs, realistic starting position in relation to the ball.

Phase of play (15 mins)

Phase of Play:

Set up 8v7 with a target player for the defending team. 2-4-2 formation for attacking team. 2-4-1 with GK for orange team.

The blue team are looking to create chances by gaining possession in midfield areas and looking to pass the ball into the two strikers. the two strikers are then looking to combine with each other to create space for each other to end with a shot at goal.

Option 1: Midfielders work to get the ball out wide and then look to play and angled pass into the strikers, strikers then have to combine to get a shot on target.

Option 2: one of the red full backs drive out with the ball and loses it and the blue team have to quickly transition into attack and make use of the space that has been left by either or one full back.
