Arival Activity

Organization:

1. Players work in pairs.

2. One ball per pair.

3. Open area.

Instructions:

1. As players arrive, they pair up and pass back and forth to each other.

2. Players can stand as close as 5yds to each other or as far as 10yds.

3. Ensure players use only the inside of the foot.

Coaching Points:

1. Head up - eye contact.

2. Communication.

3. Weight and accuracy of pass.

4. Quality of first touch.

5. Technical execution of inside push pass.

Progressions:

1. Have players increase distance gradually.

2. Allow players to end with driven passing.

Warm-Up - SAQ & Rondo

Organization:

1. SAQ - four cones 5yds apart from each other - 20yds total.

2. Rondo - 10x10 grid.

3. Set up 5v2 or 4v2 (based on turnout).

Instructions:

1. After arrival activity, teams performs SAQ warm-up together.

2. Players go through series of dynamic movements.

3. Following SAQ, players split up into two grids for Rondo game.

4. Defenders must stay inside grid and attackers must stay on line.

5. Defender switches out if she touches ball or bad pass/touch is made by attacker.

Coaching Points:

SAQ

1. Proper execution of physical movements.

2. Mental and physical preparation - focus.

3. Coordination - all working together.

Rondo

1. Eye contact.

2. Weight and accuracy of pass.

3. Direction and quality of first touch.

4. Speed of play.

Progressions:

1.Add restrictions to rondo - two touches, pass with different foot used to receive, etc.

Organization:

1. 12x12 grid.

2. Players distributed as shown.

3. One ball per group; spare balls on outside.

Instructions:

1. Players go through a series of passing sequences.

2. Players always follow their pass to the next cone.

3. Ensure players work in both directions.

Coaching Points:

1. Connection - eye contact.

2. Communication - when ready to receive.

3. Communication - where to pass (feet, space, left or right foot).

4. Contact on the ball - middle.

5. Contact with foot - inside.

6. Weight and accuracy of pass.

7. Quality and direction of first touch.

Progressions:

1. Quick pace - players should pressure immediately after passing.

2. Competition amongst groups - most passes in 90 seconds.

Fully Opposed - Conditioned Game

Organization:

1. 40x30 area.

2. Balls on top of blue and red cones.

3. Teams distributed evenly as shown.

Instructions:

1. 4v4+4

2. Neutral players (in red): two inside area and two outside area.

3. Teams look to knock the opposing team's balls off their respective cones.

4. Team that knocks the most off after set time wins the round.

5. Winning team stays on, losing team switches out with neutrals.

Coaching Points:

1. Head up to observe space/options.

2. Three lines of attack.

3. Movement to create angles of support.

4. Decision-making: when/where to pass.

5. Application of techniques taught in session.

Instructions:

2. Movement to create space/support.

3. Angles of support at 10 and 2 o'clock.

4. Communication.
