2nd Half Starters

We seem to be most stable in our current 1-4-2-3-1 formation so we retain that formation.

However, based on how the start of the game goes I am strongly considering a 1-4-4-1-1 formation to give us even more defensive stability. Pachuca are a Premier level team and play a high level, high tempo passing game. We have to be much more defensive minded than usual and look to hit with quick counter attacks.

PLEASE NOTE: THE UNIVERSAL USE OF DOTTED LINES IS FOR PLAYERMOVEMENT. THIS SOFTWARE USES DOTTED LINES FOR PASSING INSTEAD. THESE ARE PLAYERMOVEMENT LINES NOT PASSING LINES!!

1. PRIMARY FOCUS: DEFENSIVE DISCIPLINE/POSITION,POSITION, POSITION – are the keywords for this game.

To sit much deeper than normal and use our speedfor counter attack opportunities. Focus on a defensive minded mentality but explosivewhen we win back possession.

6-8 players behind the ball defensively wheneverwe can.

Limit our touches on the ball (limit dribbling)and early release of passes.

Getting the ball up high to our #9. From thereretain possession and allow a couple of others to join the attacking play.

Maintain a very compact back 4 with a shield of#6 & #8 in front of them

2. COMPACTBACK 4

Work hard to have our #2 & #3 defensivebacks stay narrow to really compress the middle of the field.

Destroy all attacks through the central areas.

keep the play out in front of our defensive lineas much as possible so we are not chasing back to our goal

Strong in our tackles (winning 50/50 balls)

accurate in our outlet passing to our #9

3. USING A 1-4-4-1-1 FORMATION:

This formation is very much like a 4-4-2 butwith a more defensive posture. #9 is the only pure attacking player, #10 playsa deeper, more subdued role to help out more defensively

The 2 banks for 4 players (defenders #2, #4, #5,#3 and midfielders #6, #7, #8, #11) play very compact and stay connected asunits. Creates a solid and compact group in front of the goal making it verydifficult to play through (some people call it “parking the bus”).

We play with a flat midfield 4 not a diamond asusual
