Starting Lineup

Basic 1-4-2-3-1 formation as this has proven to be our strongest formation and gives us the most balance.

**************************************************************************

Going into these league games, we have no prior knowledge of our opponent's relative strengths so we come into games with a mindset to play the game that best suits us and pursue excellence in things we've been learning during our training sessions.

***************************************************************************

DEFENSIVE UNIT

(#1, #2, #3, #4, #5) (ANDREW, JC, BRIAN R, MADDEN, JACOB, JERRY, COLTON, NELS)

APPLY PRESSURE.....RECOVER CENTRALLY!!!!

COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE!!

*We are focusing on a strong defensive shape, building a good foundation to counter attack

*1 v 1 individual defensive battles are key....YOU MUST WIN THOSE by being patient, focused on POSITION FIRST, ball second.

*STAY COMPACT and connected as individual players to form a strong unit

*Apply pressure to ball, provide cover/support and ensure there is balance across our unit. Move FAST to cover passes and apply pressure (quick, slow, sideways, low ...our mantra)

*if there is ball penetration, recover centrally

*When the ball goes negative, push higher up the field!!

*Pass off players as they move horizontally across the field....but TRACK VERTICAL RUNNERS!!

* keep the play out in front of our defensive line as much as possible so we are not chasing back to our goal.

* Look to play out from the back when clear space is available to us

* Do not allow any balls through the back line centrally....make everything go wide!

*GK ROLE:

*Be conservative with ball distribution

*Punch aerial balls in the box whenever possible!

 ***************************************************

MIDFIELD UNIT

(#6, #8, #10) (NOAH, JACOB, ERIC, SAM, MARTIN, NELS

STAY CONNECTED WITH EACH OTHER AND OUR 2 OTHER UNITS (DEFENSE/ATTACK)

MANAGE OUR COUNTER ATTACKS

Stay connected with our defensive unit and forward lines (transition well)

* Win the battle for the middle of the field

*WIN YOUR INDIVIDUAL BATTLES

*CAN WE INCREASE THE ACCURACY OF OUR PASSING?

*TECHNICALLY: Ensure we get a good first touch, have our head on a swivel and don't hold onto the ball too long!

*Be very aware of your connectivity and position with regards to each other. Don't get too flat (in a straight line), don't get sucked too deep into the back line (unless rotation requires it).

*Be a catalyst for our counter-attacking movements:

Go quick

Funnel the ball centrally to give us left/right options

creative movements around the ball to unbalance defenders and increase our passing options

**************************************************

ATTACKING UNIT

(#7, #9, #10, #11) (BRIAN V, COLTON, ERIC, MADDEN, SAM, MARTIN, JERRY)

COUNTER ATTACK WITH SPEED

#9 MUST HOLD THE BALL UP TO ALLOW SUPPORT

* Ensure that our #9 plays as high as possible to take advantage of opportunities in behind their back line!

*DO NOT DRIBBLE THE BALL INTO DEAD CORNERS IN NUMBERS DOWN SITUATIONS. Pull the ball back out and look for support.

*If we get opportunity to attack over the top we take it, otherwise #9 MUST hold up the ball to allow support players to join

*#9 has freedom to apply pressure a little higher tup the field to put pressure on the ball.

*#7 & #11 must be aware of their defensive responsibilities and shutdown wide area attacks in the middle th
