Ball Mastery/Prior to the beginning of session

Organization: open space

6 players or as many as you have at that moment

6 balls(additional available for other arriving players)

Instructions: Players will work on ball mastery with coach

Do this until majority of players arrive or session time begins

Players follow coach's directions and movements

work on L Turn Roll Across Opposite Foot(ball mastery)

Coaching Points: -correct contact on the ball

-correct surface of the foot

Warm-up (10 mins)

Organization: open field

12 players (6 attackers, 6 defenders)

6 balls

Instructions: The defending player starts with the ball.

The defending player passes the ball through the legs of the attacking player who is facing in the opposite direction.

The defending player presses the ball but does not attempt to tackle.

The attacker must react quickly, retrieve the ball and then beat the defender.

Coaching Points:-get to ball quickly

-1st or 2nd touch should engage the defender

-head up

-timing of feints or fakes

Visual Cues:-defenders run to the ball

-distance to defender

Progressions:P-defenders become fully active

R-defenders go at walking speed

Main Theme (20 mins)

Organization: Half field

6 players (1 GK, 2 defenders, 3 attackers)

additional balls by Goal

Instructions: Goal Keeper starts activity by throwing or kicking ball out to attacker.

The attacker starts the activity in the center circle and the defender from the edge of the penalty area.

On the attacker's first touch, the defender becomes active & attempts to win the ball.

The defender must attempt to win the ball outside of the penalty area and pass through either of the counter goals.

The attacker must attempt to beat the defender and score in the big goal.

Once inside the penalty area, the attacker cannot be tackled by the defender.

After each attempt, players return to their starting lines.

Rotate players after a set time.

Coaching Points:-commit defender at speed

-positive first touch

-attack front foot

-good decision making

-timing of feints & fakes

Visual Cues:-spacing

- distance to defender & defender's run

-direction of attacker's first touch

Progressions:P-allow defenders to tackle inside penalty box

R-attackers start with the ball

Main Theme 2 (20 mins)

Organization: Half Field

6 players( 1 GK, 2 defenders, 3 attackers)

additional balls by servers

Instructions: Second attacker starts the activity from the center circle by passing the ball into the first attacker.

Both the attacker and defender start the activity from the edge of the penalty area.

As soon as the pass is made the defender becomes active and attempts to win the ball.

The defender must attempt to win the ball outside the penalty area and pass through either of the counter goals.

The attacker must attempt to beat the defender and score in the big goal.

Once inside the penalty area the attacker can not be tackled by the defender.

After each attempt players return to their starting position.

Rotate players after a set time limit.

Coaching Points:-check away

-receive ball deep and sideways on

-timing of feints & fakes

-cut into space behind defender

Visual Cues:-distance to defender

-spacing

-positioning on the field(where does attacker receive ball?)

Progressions:P-allow defender to become active before pass

R-defender becomes active after attackers first touch

Conditioned Game (20 mins)

Organization: 30 by 20 area

6 players (2 attackers, 2 defenders, 2 GK's)

1 ball (additional on the outside)

Instructions: Players play 1 v 1 plus GK's.

The GK starts the game by passing the ball to their attacking player.

Each player attempts to score in their opponents goal.

If the ball leaves the area the game is restarted with the oppositions GK.

Play for a set time limit and rotate players in for equal playing time.

Coaching Points:-commit defender

-good decision making

-receive sideways on

-play at speed

-cut into space behind defender

Visual Cues:-angle of pass from GK

-distance to defender & defender's run

Progressions:P-allow attackers one free touch before defenders can tackle

R-play without GK's

Free Play/Scrimmage (20 mins)

Organization: two 20 by 20 areas

4 teams of 5 players(20 players total)

1 ball per game(additional on the outside)

Instructions: Teams play small sided games 5 v 5

regaular game rules apply(corner kicks, goal kicks, throw-ins)

play for a set time and then rotate teams

if ball goes out of bounds, play is restarted with throw-in

if goal is scored, scoring team must have all of their players run back and touch their goal, before being allowed to defend

Coaching Points: -play at speed

-attack front foot of defender

-once defender is beat, take space behind defender

-timing/execution of fake/feints

- body poistioning-low center of gravity

Visual Cues: -does defender pressure or delay

-positioning of 2nd defender(is there space behind 1st defender we can exploit)
