Skill session (25 mins)

How to play

Yellows try to play down the gaunlet. When they pass through a section the defenders within that section are frozen within that section.

If defending team at any point win the ball then the game becomes unlocked and is a game situation until the ball goes dead. Then you would reset the gaunlet.

Attacking team can use the blues in the safe zone for overloads. They can also send players forward into the next zone to overload the next section.

Progression

Allow defending team to pick how many players they put in each section of the gaunlet.

Phase of play (30 mins)

How to play

Yellow team look to play out and by hitting the target player or scoring in one of the wide goals they gain a goal.

Red team look to press or drop deep. Manage this team to get out the outcomes you want. They get goal by scoring in the yellows goal.

Progression

Allow red team ownership of their game plan. Do they want to drop and create block or press high.

Coaching Points - Reinforce points from skill session

Awareness & recognition of opportunity to play out. Looking for weak side of opponents (have they pressed high or dropped deep?).

Dispersal: precisely where players should be and why/how/when?

How to play

Normal 11 v 11 rules apply.

Yellow team will play out in a 1-4-2-3-1.

Red team will be set up in a 1-4-3-3.

This may fall into a 1-4-1-4-1 if defending deep.

Progression

Allow red team ownership of their system. They can change their system and they want to decide on how they play in terms of pressing or blocks or counter attack.

Giving yellows different situations of playing out.
