3 v 3 +1 to 2 v 1 (25 mins)

Organization:

- approx 25 x 45 area set up as shown in total

- Smaller 25 x 20 area set up as shown(attacking zone) and a 25 x 20(possession zone)

- 10 Players (4 Attackers, 4 Defenders, 1 Support Player & 1 Goalkeeper)..alter numbers based on size of your squad...

- 3-4 gates and/or coaching poles set up as shown

- 1 Goal set up as shown

- 1 Ball (additional on outside)

Activity

- Players are split into two teams (Blue vs Red) & compete in a 3 v 3 possession game inside smaller area. Attacking team can use Support Player (Black) to create an overload

- Each team also has one Defender/Target Player standing in the next zone ready to play

- Attacking team aims to pass or dribble through gates to score point. After scoring second point players can break out into the Attacking Zone (see diagram). Alternatively you can also remove the gates and have the attacking team make a predetermined amount of passes prior to trying to break into the other zone.

- Once entering Attacking Zone the player in possession aims to score past Goalkeeper, using their team mate if needed to create a 2v1.

- Once a goal is scored or attack breaks down the attacker who entered Attacking Zone swaps with team mate & becomes the new attacker and Red sends a different player to defend.

Coaching Points

-Passing and receiving key factors

- Possession: Circulation of the ball to stretch & separate the opposition.

- Awareness: Always scan and take snapshots of your space & surroundings.

-support and movement

- Transition: Attack with purpose & take advantage of overload. Lure in Defender? Use team mate as Decoy? 1v1 attacking strategies?

- Finishing key factors

Possible Progressions

- Attacking team must make 3 consecutive passes before dribbling through a gate- Defender can follow Attacker to create 2v2 in Attacking Zone

-Play even numbers

-touch limits
